Well done Ian.
Would definitely recommend "Road Racing for Serious Runners". Easy to read and applies their principles to all shorter distances.

Thanks.
Im pleased you said that. I was really confident before this one knowing I had trained well for it. Not sure I'd feel the same not following their schedule now for any race.

Impossible is Nothing
As said above - good book that applies their sense to other distances, what to emphasise etc. Doesn't have the same sort of detailed plans as Advanced Marathoning though - but you should be used to the ideas by now! (Well done BTW)

Impossible thanks, what you training for at the moment?
Im planning on using it for the GNR in October, once I've done a few weeks of the Post marathon schedule. I really enjoyed the last schedule so Im really looking forward to doing this one as last I didnt do any speedwork leading upto the GNR.

Impossible is Nothing
Since I messed up my sub-3 attempt at London I have to do another marathon!!
Abingdon in October is the plan, but I have decided to play around with P&D quite a bit because I can't forego the 10k races I like doing in the summer. I'll end up doing more speedwork (VO2 Max intervals that is) than the marathoning plan suggests to sharpen up for them but otherwise long run, medium-long run, tempo and strides will all be done with Abingdon in mind.

Another vote for P&D. I used the 18 week 55 mile schedule for Edinburgh (my first marathon) and managed 3:36. I think the longer mid-week runs helped even though I sometimes found it difficult to fit them in. About 6 weeks before the marathon I found it quite tough - sick of following a schedule (any schedule) but by the time I got to the start line I felt well prepared.

i also did Edinburgh.
At FLM this year I took 9.45m off my PB then at Edinburgh a further 3.20s. I would have taken off a few more mins had it not been for the wind/sun/bad pacing
