Hi.
I was just wondering how everyones training was going, who is using the schedules from Advanced Marathoning. I have been following it alot closely over the past few weeks after coming back from a calf injury and it is working well for. The heart rate advice for the the long runs has reallly helped me.

I lurve, lurve, lurve the P&D plan that I'm following, just the right mix of hard/easy for me and I just wish I'd followed it last year when I bought it!
Having said that I injured my back on monday slipping on some ice so a VERY easy week for me this week

I like them too but find it difficult fitting two medium long runs in in a week. they often end up being on tues eve and wed am which is quite difficult.
Am looking forward to using them again (I know I have not finished them this time) for my Autumn marathon as I will be on holiday for 7 weeks in the summer so it will be much easier!

Hope everyone's training is still going well.
Just a quick question about the intervals in P&D. TodayI did 8 miles with 5 x 600 metres at 5k pace with 90secs of jogging inbetween . I set up an advanced workout on the garmin so it was straightforward but I was wondering what is the best time to do them. I did 4 miles then did the intervals, the finished off with the last 1.5 miles or so. Is this the best way to do them or should i have done the intervals earlier on in the run?
Also the intervals, they were at around my 5k pace, but I haven't done a 5k since the summer so they seemed a bit easy and my heart rate for them wasnt paricularly high around 80%. Is this alright or should I push it abit harder?
Im really enjoying the schedule, seems to be working well. Im doing the 18 week upto 55 miles schedule.

Ian, I'd probably be tempted to do 3 miles then the intervals giving you 2.5 miles recovery at the end. Don't think it really matters too much though, providing you have sufficient warm-up / recovery.
As for pace, your HR should definitely be higher than 80%, should probably be closer to 90%.
Am doing the 18 week up to 70 miles and finding it excellent. Knocked 4 mins off my Half marathon PB the other week and am looking forward to FLM

Ian, yes, I agree with S, intervals should be harder than 80%. I find after I have done intervals I am quite teird so prefer to have a longer WU and shorter CD. The other week I was a bit mad and did something like 2miles WU, intervals, 1mile cool down to gym, body pump class then 2mile run home. That well and truely knackered me. I think the thing about doing a longer CD is that you are running on tierd legs so I suppose for marathon training that is good (although hard!!)

I've usually split the distance half and half between warm up and cool down round intervals which works fine for me.
I've been delighted with the results from the P&D plan. I took 6 and a half minutes of my half PB. I'm into the 3 week taper section now, so the hardest work is by with.
