People round here thought I was talking about Abington so I always had to say 'In Oxfordshire' very quickly

To give the full etymology, as requested, "Abidabi" does not derive from the Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, but does instead come from the expression "Fandabidozi". This, as everyone will know, is the catch phrase of that comic double act legend, the Krankies. The expression had the meaning of "excellent" or "terrific" which of course the Abingdon marathon is and was.

Any resemblance of either santababy or McNewbie to Jimmy Krankie is entirely unintentional. :-)G

Snapstinget
a) if you say Abingdon it sounds all proper
b) Abo also refers to the indigenous Oxfordshire peoples
c) Abi sounds French or like a school in Reading, much too confusing
