Treacle - The course is supported for 5 hours. It is confirmed in the race instructions and on the entry form here abingdonamblers.co.uk

While I wish we could stay open all day the marshals are volunteers and it’s only fair to except them to be out for a reasonable time (btw some will be setting up the course the day before, and at 6:00am on the morning). If we leave them standing out for too much longer then they wont marshal next time and we wont have a race….so it’s to protect the event for future years. There is also a maximum period we can close some of the roads for.

In the early years the race even had people turn up with their hiking boots and walking sticks, and for the last several Abingdons there has been a limit to discourage walkers.

Don’t worry we are not totally heartless. After 5 hours marshals will start to gradually stand down depending upon how many people are still out there. From then it will be down to the runner to make their own way. Directional signage will be left out for sometime afterwards and cyclists / a mini bus will follow the tail enders. Providing you are at the finish within a reasonable amount of time after 5 hours you will still receive a finishing position, medal and goody bag. If you look at the results on the Abingdon site for 2005 & 2006 you will see this is the case.

Thanks LOTTL -sounds reasonable.

I should be nearly finished by 5 hours - I was just getting concerned it was a strict cut-off. As long as the signs are still there....

Thanks LOTTL - I thought that would be the case, but it is reassuring to hear it anyway. Like Treacle, I'm hoping to be under 5 hours this time, but you can't be certain how it's going to go on the day...
