I believe you have to put your name on a waiting list with the race organisers (via RW). Then when all of us who are deperately clinging onto the dream that we can still do this finally admit we can't, we let the bods in charge know..and so on

Thanks! Really hope you are able to run, its the people who wake up on race day and decide they cant be arsed that annoy me, i ran Reading this year and with 17,000 entries only 12,000 ran! Thats alot of spare race numbers for people. Still only got myself to blame.

Peacey- Just wait till FLM 09. Given the online ballot there will be less than 30,000 runners. You heard it here first!

lol odeon - hope you're wrong tho!
then again, i did the new bupa 10k in may - only 6000 out of 10000 ran!! mostly because it was raining i think - it was foul. one chap said he had to persuade his neighbours to come despite the rain. all 4 were just going to not bother! and it was over £20 entry fee - they must be mad!
then again i would have missed one recently if they hadn't sent the race pack the week before.i'd completely forgotten i'd entered it - oops!

Most race organisers allow for the drop-out factor when setting their entry limits.

a race i was in in the spring (can't remember which one) fell foul of that sensible plan, lottl. it was a lovely day and loads more than expected turned up and they ran out of medals - oops! thinking about it it was brighton half. really felt for them as it was brilliantly organised and they were only being sensible. but you just emailed them and got sent a medal through the post, mine arrived a month or so later. so all was well in the end
i think a firing squad might be a bit harsh peacy
