18-year-old Glenfiddich is rather nice ;-)

Normally have a bottle of Glenmorangie but currently got some Glenfiddich 15 year old.

Personally not a massive fan of the peaty stuff and was disappointed in some Japanese Yamazaki.

We usually have some Penderyn to hand, and a TCP-flavoured Scotch which eL Bee! knows he won't have to share with me. At the moment we've got some 10-year-old Bushmills which we bought when we were there on holiday.

I'd like to be able to recommend the output of the Lakes Distillery since it's very close to where I live, but I can't. The blends are lacklustre and not worth the price tag, and I'll never be able to recommend the single malts because if I've got £223 and some pennies to spend I won't be gambling it on a bottle of gimmicky whisky. Their bistro does good coffee and cake, though.

For several years I drank at about a measure a month a bottle of Port Ellen. I got this as a 10 year old cask strength (55%abv?) unfiltered offering from a Cadenhead shop in Edinburgh on my one and only visit there.

Beautiful smoky rich flavour. You had to add water to get it back to a drinkable strength and as you drank it, it turned a milky amber.

Port Ellen hasn't been distilling for quite some time I think, so it would be extremely rare and old by now.

I have both a bottle of Talisker Skye and Talisker Port Ruighe in the go just now. Both are getting on the low side. I thought they would be very similar but they are different enough. Age and complexity, there's more going on with the Port Ruighe that suits holding on to a sip.

That should be a link to a Dan Snow podcast about Scotch Whisky distilling. Might be of interest. Its only about 15 minutes long.

On my Christmas list for this year - Bunnahabhain. Nobody else in our family drinks whisky and in fact neither does anyone who is coming to visit.

Perfect

I can sit in a corner and "Bah Humbug" at people.
