Head to the lake. You only need to be able to count to "2", max.

Unless it's quite a small lake.

Sing as you go - One rendition of Sweet Dreams Are Made of This does between 6 and 8 lengths (mostly 6 but I can set myself little challenges :-)).
Or just PAY ATTENTION crab

Another vote for Poolmate here. I was always losing count - no problems now.

Morrning , i also have problems with the count and have considered the poolmate,YMP wrote his lost count in a small pool, does the length of the pool help, i use a 25m and a 33.3m.

Sorry to be smug but is counting that hard? I always start at the same end so up is odd and back is even.

Poolmate works for me, but not for Mrs JD. I think it depends on style (on push off?).

I'm like you, SoaPM in that I tend not to lose count (or else I always do and have never noticed - who knows, really?) but I know swimmers who find it hard to keep track beyond the "odd number/even number" position and I suppose if you were trying to do timed sets of 6, 8, 10 lengths that could be a nuisance.

Would it be easier to remember a letter? - say length one is A, two is B and so on ...and if it's a particules tiring/boring/'no one to neb at' swim think of things that start with that letter for that length :-)

...and for even more nerdy fun, think of a theme for that swim :-)

I lack imagination as well as counting ability so I bought a Poolmate in the end and it's worked flawlessly so far. I'm even swimming more in order to justify buying it.

I know I'm being more than slightly dim but I easily lose count of the number of lengths I swim. Do...
