I know I'm being more than slightly dim but I easily lose count of the number of lengths I swim. Does anyone have tips on how not to lose count?

Buy a pool mate watch. Brilliant gadget - counts lengths (and thus distance, you programme in the length of the pool and it detects when you turn at each end), strokes taken and time and also calculates efficiency.

About £60 IIRC

I have a poolmate and I'm not that impressed tbh - if I count in my head too there's a serious discrepancy between the two - far more than could be explained by me losing count. I suspect that it might be because I swim in a small pool (at the bottom end of what it says it can cope with) but if it wasn't for the fact that I'm using it as a watch at the moment it would just float round the bottom of my gym bag.

I use a cheap casio watch and check it every 4 and 8 laps to see what times I'm swimming. I know that swimming 7.30 give or take will get me to 64 in 30ish minutes.
