I have a gift pack of Whittards coffee to work through over the next few months with my cheapo filter coffee machine. Lots of small samples of different types.

Have to say the £25 cost of the machine has been money very well spent. Hopefully I will identify a preferred style from the gift pack.

My daughter has a Coffee Advent calendar from Yawnbrew.com. Each window with an individual pack of coffee beans. It's been nice sharing this with her, though we both agree it's hard to discern the right tasting notes unless you go for a powerful espresso shot, instead of our usual aeropress Americano with milk. They have all made pretty decent mugs of our breakfast brew.

That sounds interesting Groundhog.

I am ground beans only due to my simple setup. If I upgraded to a bean to cup machine (and found the money to) it could be a goer but I value simplicity really highly, and am put off by their complexity - plus as I only drink coffee black I don’t need anything too flashy.

I believe there are gizmos to hand grind the beans so maybe I’ll get one of them in the new year.

I bought a hand grinder as I only have beans and had a 48 hour + power cut the other day...

Is a hand grinder also good for spices?

Hmmm... I have a spice grinder too, different system. It uses knives not ceramic discs.

I wouldn't use the same grinder, RS, as hard to neutralise between grindings.

No I wouldn't use the same one as strong taint. I have a Krups for coffee.

Just looking for new ideas for my next spice grinder. i get through leccy ones so quickly.

I don’t recall ever grinding a spice but wouldn’t a pestle and mortar be the solution in that case?
