I've got a (2nd hand) Gaggia MM grinder (http://coffeegeek.com/reviews/grinders/gaggia_mm). Fine for what it does except for the fact that it creates massive amounts of static in the ground coffee which means when I open up the tub it flies everywhere, unless I leave it for 10-15 minutes - which sort of defeats the point of it being freshly ground. It's worst with very dark roasts, which is a shame as that's what I like.

Lasting well enough though.

I just haven't thought about it Dvorak.

Larkim - I bought a Gaggia grinder years ago (early model) for grinding spices and pastes. It was v effective.

There was a tip by someone or other to put a couple of drops of water in with the beans before grinding, to reduce the static problem. I use a Dualit grinder permanenly set to its finest setting (not very fine) for an Aeropress.

Tried that water trick but it didn't seem to have an effect. Maybe I tried too little water, but didn't really fancy putting more in.

That’s an odd one. There’s a tiny bit of static with the De Longhi, but nothing that bothers me.

Krups, not De Longhi, that’s the espresso machine.

It's quite bean dependent. The starbucks espresso beans grinds fly up to 30-40cm when freshly ground out of my grinder! I think the mess bothers my better half than it does me, but it would be nice to not have to worry about it. It must be down to the specific plastics / metals in use; would love to find a good solution though. I tend to leave a spoon inside the output tub these days (as an attempt to solve the problem) and I know when there's a lot of static as I can discharge some of it with a loud "click" when I touch that.

My default Costco San Francisco beans don't do it quite so much, and taste good, so that's my compromise.
