parkrun uses older WAVA tables than Fetch hence the difference in percentage.

I have a birthday next month and hope it will help me get 80% over all my racing distances. I achieved 83.31 in my 10k last weekend and would love to nudge over 85 at some point with the help of a birthday!

I have a birthday next month and hope it will help me get 80% over all my racing distances. I achieved 83.31 in my 10k last weekend and would love to nudge over 85 at some point with the help of a birthday! I have found that a few birthdays have helped make it easier to be consistently 80+, but age has sapped me of the desire to push harder back towards 83+.

I’m sort of similar. Now I’m Very Old rather than just old, even maintaining 80% at two of my favoured distances is a challenge. I’d begun to take 80 for granted… but you can’t. Contrary to popular opinion you don’t ‘just’ need birthdays!

My 60m is still way out in front at 86.13 - but it was a bit higher pre pandemic. It’s come to something when my high jump, 81.74% is nearly as ‘good’ as last years best 100m.

57.5 degrees of pain looking at your profile you have been running and racing a lot of years. Do you think this is part of the reason you have stopped pushing so hard. I have stopped running seriously a few times over the years and the last time I stopped about four years ago I said I would never race again.
I am not really sure how it happened tbh as pbs were always my motivation. However, I have really enjoyed getting fit again and achieving the 83 % wava was very unexpected after less than a year back training and a renewed desire for running My comment about birthday help was meant literally in the now, as had I run my 10k next month, the wava would have been 84 +. I need targets to keep me training well and I am enjoying theme challenge of wavas. I have an 80% for a half marathon this year so my first task is to get another over 80 in another distance. That would give a fetch gold standard which would be nice😊 Sharkie I can't think of you as very old! 86 is fantastic wava! What is your driving force to be so dedicated? Is it purely the love of what you are doing?

I did know exactly what YOU meant by birthday help, forever. I'm the same: my precious 60m is part of the Indoor athletics season and 'all' I have to do is wait til the end of January rather than target the first events of the year!
I just get very mildly cross with younger athletes who seem to think it gets easier to do well. Not in my experience it doesn't.
You are a FABULOUS runner, that is obvious! 80% for a half! AND You must find another fast 10k somewhere to nudge that wava upwards. I bet you will.
I'm 69, and the beckoning new age category of W70 just is NOT appealing. Help, how can I be that old!

Oh and in answer to your question - I think I just like learning things and trying to master techniques. I didn't do any sort of athletics at school so it's all nice and new for me.

I genuinely mean this, Sharkie, you look amazing! A highest wava of 88 + too but 10 years ago back up what you are saying about not getting easier as you get older, as I know you consistently train hard.
I may possibly race next weekend for that third distance but the weather is looking a bit warm and I melt in the heat so will see.

You are spot on forever. I still enjoy running, racing and several Fetch games but the motivation is more for enjoyment than pure performance. The thought of going hard for 26.2 on the road holds no attraction right now, but my next race (just over marathon length on a challenging and remote Highland trail) really does.
