Had a text from a very disgruntled running buddy, Sheffield half was her first half :(

No bunting for me I am afraid. I was in this low key race in er Sheffield today. Apparently I did not finish (DNF) a race I also did not start (DNS) Lots of misinformation about this story. We were kept standing at the start line for an hour. There was poor communication. Tannoy could not be heard, there was not even a man with a megaphone! I heard a cheer ahead and then there was some movement. We crossed the starting line but the clock did not seem to be working. We passed the Radio Sheffield reporter and van. At about a milei heard some of my fellow runners said the event was cancelled. There was no water at the first water station but the Marshall just stood and clapped. No one tried to stop me, police or marshals. By the town centre word on the street was that the event was cancelled but we were not sure if roads were remaining closed or if we would be stopped. Crowds were great and loads of people brought out extra water. Hanging around standing at the start had done me no favours and my back was sore. Decided to abort the race, slowed to a training pace. Enjoyed the atmosphere along Ecclesall road - fantastic crowd support - phoned Sue, my wife, to hear of the pandemonium at the start. They had announced technical difficulties and one official had spoken of a car crash.

I stopped in the city centre. A good 8 mile training run at least. :)

Thank you both. Still ran through Sheffield and had a laugh - was never going to trouble my PB after all that standing around. Had a pint at the Sheffield Tap with my lovely wife as compensation. A chipotle and chocolate dark porter beer. Life is good :)

I'd seen some reports about it, dbb. It seems that the lead runners set off when they were told it was cancelled and everyone else (not having been able to hear the announcement) followed them. Glad you enjoyed yourself anyway. One of those races that will go down in history. And somebody is in big trouble at work tomorrow for not delivering the bowsers!
I ran a 10k on NYD a couple of years ago where they had put the water out the night before and someone had nicked it all *shakes head in despair*

What a mess DBB, how awful for everyone who had trained or spent money on travel/ accommodation etc.

PB (just, 11 secs) for me at Cambourne 10k today. Bit of a roller coaster results wise. My watch said 54.04 so thought I had a PB (previously gained at Cambourne 2012 was 54.12) but sheets of results at the event said 54.34 so I was a bit disappointed as I'd really pushed in the last bit as I thought I was in hope of a wee bit of a PB. But offical results say 54.01 so glad I pushed it even if I thought I was gonna hurl!!!!!!!

Great Fetch fest today. Saw Karl, RichHL, Soozie, Hellsbells, BrianJ and lots of my old club members. Funny how I can now turn up on my own for a race and always find someone i "know". Love Fetch xxx
