SERIOUS RUNNING QUESTION ALERT!

How much slower will I be in a trail race than a road race? I'm thinking of entering Beaconsfield 5 but I've never really run on trails.

You will be slower but I wouldn't bother trying to work out by how much.

What I would say is DO IT!
Just enjoy it, you'll love it. Trail running rocks :-)

yeah how much slower depends on how hilly, muddy etc. but time will pass quicker because it's prettier and more fun :-)

LindsD - You must enter a trail race, you will love it. Forget time, enjoy the countryside. Try to practice on trails a few times as they are different. You have to keep an eye out for tree roots and rocks and things that can trip you up but far more fun than road racing.

I am at Heathrow T5 sitting opposite Colin Montgomerie the golfer.

Hi gals and guys. Sorry I haven't dropped in lately. Three weeks ago I did a strain or something - seems to be hip. Wifey still running though. I'll pop in now and again while I'm on this everlasting bench. Hope you're all OK or OKish.

Lake District for a social sounds good. Should ask Vrap for race advice.

LindsD: Beaconsfield 5 is a lovely run around the Hall Barn estate grounds. Last year it was mostly on well packed paths.... with all the recent rain it may be a little muddier this year. There was a hill (which I walked up) but otherwise it was fine. Just ad 30-45 secs per mile onto your normal race pace and enjoy it!

Oh and I ran it in normal road shoes.... it was not a x-country run just off road :-)

if we ask V'rap for race advice we might find ourselves on an out of control bicycle going down the side of a mountain *quakes* :-o
