Tesco fruit pastilles and dairy fudge get me round long runs, with a couple of gels.

I have also eaten cocktail sausages, pretzels, crisps, Ritz crackers, cake (many kinds), biscuits, tomatoes, banana, those little round pancakes you get in Sainsburys, malt loaf, flapjacks.....
Ultra running is the dog's when it comes to food.

I used to use SiS gels but prefer shotblox now. I agree though that there comes a point where too much sweet stuff is not good! I gobbled so many jelly babies in my first marathon that I actually can't eat them at all now. The very thought of them makes me barf :-O

I tried chocolates (maybe Celebrations? or Heroes? can't remember now) on the JW Ultra leg, but they were too difficult to swallow. I tink Fleecy might have mentioned orange or satsuma segments which sound ideal but tricky to carry without squishing.

I guess on an ultra you can have more variety as you're going to be taking more breaks. Gels are so convenient to take when actually running.

I agree totally, Meglet. Marathon training is all about convenience so it is gels and shotblox all the way for me.

Next weekend is going to be interesting. Want 16 miles, so 3 miles before the Sleaford HM and must remember that the HM is a training run, so steady pace and hopefully finish the half around 2:25.

Good point, well made, FML :-)
I try to make sure I get a mix of salty stuff and sweet stuff, if that helps.

It's good to make a race part of a training run - as long as you stick to your pace plan :-)
