I'm the same, too. Can't be bothered with speedwork. Run at the same pace for races, too.

Discipline 700ers, discipline! Be good or we'll send Sharktopus to make sure you don't go too fast (Now there's a concept ) And PP, surely he does an 8 finger shuffle... |

RPE... Something perceived effort Not sure that I trust my perception of effort. Some days I feel I can't manage anything better than a plod, and then discover I was averaging some quite respectable pace (according to Garmin), other days I feel I'm flying and then discover I quite definitely wasn't. I think it will be the HRM or nothing. I do go a bit faster when racing (on those rare occasions). The adrenaline, no doubt. |

Rating of perceived effort, Columba. If I'm honest, left to my own devices, I've never been above a 6 topendsports.com unless it's for very short stretches. the Tuesday training I used to go to pushed me a bit more and I really ought to go back to that session.

It is all about discipline. I know this because I have had the same problem in the past. You just have to make yourself go slower. As CStar says, you have to see it as an intrinsic part of getting fitter and/or faster. If your aim is to improve and/or race faster/better the you need to get to the start line in the best shape you possibly can and that means running more slowly than might feel comfortable or "right" sometimes. Right that's my lunch break done. |

Filthy here too. Still behind with work but at least I have a pleasurable ache in my shoulders and the smug knowledge that I can have some No one's mentioned puddings yet today. |

Cheers, Molesy. I'll have a wee play with that later Good to see I'm not the only one pace runner here. I have the same issues with RPE in that sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's difficult but Mr Garmin says it's all the same pace.... I'll start putting in an easy run by adding a minute or so per mile onto one or two runs a week - especially as Sharktopus has been nudged and has an eye open! Tonight's pudding will be a real blast from childhood. We bought screwballs on inmpulse

Speaking purely as an experiment of one: Prior to last year I did all my running at 'uncomfortable' pace, last year I sort of followed the rough gist of the Hadd and heart rate training threads - ignored speedwork, lots of slow comfortable pace runs with the emphasis on keeping my heartrate down. Arguably the biggest benefit that had was in not thrashing my legs to death allowing me to increase distance and quantity of runs and with my 'easy' pace slowly increasing as I went. By the end of the year I'd set PBs by quite large margins at every distance I took part in. The spreadsheet I linked to will provide guidelines for particular training run types with target paces/heart rates, it might come as a bit of a surprise just how much too fast your LSRs are and they might seem far too slow, all I can say is it worked for me, as always your mileage may vary. |

Welcome to the 700 miles in 2014 thread. Here is the groups link: http://www.fetcheveryone.com/groups-view.php?id=1147
All you have to do is run about 1.92 miles per day or 13.46 miles per week or 58.33 miles per month and take a picture when you get to 700 miles of either you or the spot you reached the target or both if you want to. And if you go under or over 700 miles nobody will mind.
