Hope the knee is OK LN, and the builders build you a lovely bathroom to wallow in after your swimbike and run.

Did I say that we had a lengthy discussion about XC and why so few from our club do it, at our committee meeting? Personally I think XC has an aura of hard work and no fun about it which is probably very unfair. (I'm sure the hard work bit is right though!) Anyway we hope that by putting it on the race series list it will encourage more people to try it at the end of this season then they will be more likely to give it a go next season.

Cheers LD!

The thing that puts me off XC is that you need different shoes for it and the whole issue of spikes. It seems a bit too much of a gamble if you then discover you hate it.

I ran years ago XC for my High School and loved it....
I would love to get back into it but I don't think you can if you are not part of a running club (which I am not).

LN you can get a cheap pair of XC shoes e.g. More Mile Cheviots for about £25. Never used spikes.

Linds - The mess is most of the fun!

You don't fancy joining a club Honestmackem? I joined a small running group, part of the Jog Derbyshire initiative, similar to Run England. This entitled me to join the Derbyshire Dynamos, an affiliated running club and they enter local cross country leagues. The club run each week keeps me focused. Our group is small, 10-20 runners a week, all abilities ( but more on the slower side) don't think I would still be running without it.

Just entered the Sheffield Half on April 6th. Ran last year when it started and finished at the Don Valley stadium which was subsequently demolished. 8000 capacity, it was well organised last year. So I have 12 week's to get into a better shape!

Good luck with your training DbB.

HonestM, if you can find a friendly club near you I really would recommend joining it. I have done much much more running had loads more fun from running, than I would have done if I wasn't a member. That said, the key word is friendly - some on Fetch have not always had happy experiences.

You don't always need spikes for XC, decent trail shoes should do. In fact the ones I do often have a bit of hard surface and state 'no spikes'

Hellrunner has cured any trepidation I might have had about XC and mud!

Skipping club tonight to rest foot. Have booked a phys appt for Thursday.
