I'm all for any distance under 14 miles. I'll leave Maras to JK. I also need goals. These tend to revolve around trying to hit our County Gold standards for 60yr olds - you need to achieve these in 5 difference distances. I also do gym work, partly due to picking up an injury last year (landed on my shoulder), and have to work all the muscles and my shoulder to keep it moving. But I do think it helps generally with fitness. I'm looking forward to improved wavas from tomorrow🎂(64 candles on that cake).

Some nice times in there, your honour! Good to see several of us embracing the gym - whatever sort of weights we do. |

*waves* to all the watchers who've joined what is probably one of the most exclusive threads on Fetch ![]() In the last few years I've broadened my approach to keeping fit. In earlier decades I played squash, or went to aerobics classes, and in my 40's cycled to work every day, but didn't really think about 'keeping fit' as such. Nowadays - and indeed for the last couple of years, I've given more thought to how best to protect myself from ageing 'badly'. It's just as well, because now I have this persistent foot problem I do at least have swimming, cycling and a strengthening class to keep me going. Focusing on just one activity is for the youngsters! |

Wow Daisy you have read my mind! I was going to ask what cross training or other activities people do. Learning and mastering -or at least trying to master - new skills has been shown to be hugely beneficial mentally as well as physically. You're a shining light in that respect. Take up Tri ..in your 60s? That's you! |

I love a bit of exclusivity, me. ![]() *runs and hides for not being inclusive in all respects* |

Lol Sharkie there's an obituary for some politician I'd forgotten about, in the Times today. It mentions his 'obsession with fitness' and doing a triathlon at age 64 - with a clear inference of 'how bonkers is that' ![]() |

Actually I think joining a choir and not only having to learn notes and words but also moves has been my best brain workout this last year ![]() |

Well I'm not recommending politics as an activity conducive to good mental or physical health... then again you didn't say how old he was. We have the brilliant example of Eddie Brocklesbury in my club. A most excellent (and nice!) person! theguardian.com |

I quite like the exclusivity too (ssshh) because it’s nice to chat to people my own age who are doing similar things, or at least not sitting doing tapestry. (Seriously that was suggested as an activity I could do when I was first diagnosed with OA in my hip. Nothing against it per se, but....) So kudos for starting this Sharkie ![]() |
