Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Looking- and doing - great D.! Obviously running too! (Unlike the couple behind you who appear to be walking.)

How is everyone getting with the current conditions. I'm assuming it's pretty icy everywhere. I'm lucky in having an indoor track available.

I'm not remotely worried about falling generally. I just don't and I fully believe thinking you will makes it more likely. Having said that I am MUCH more cautious about ice than I was when younger. I reckon it's an age thing, although the only times I have fallen outdoors (either from feet or come off my bike) involved skidding on black ice.

I don't run if it's icy. OK today as the wind has dried the roads/pavements so able to run safely today despite the 'feels like' temp of -8.

But I don't run well in the cold weather, never race in the winter. No matter what I wear after an hour or so in sub zero temperatures my glutes/quads/hamstrings start to ache, very similar to how tired legs feel during the last few miles of a marathon. So when it's cold I shorten the distance and rarely run over 5 or 6 miles.

Sunday we're forecast 13 degrees, OK will be heavy rain and gale force winds but I don't care 😀

I did run on Tuesday but walked on the obviously icy bits. It’s even colder today though and I find very cold air makes me wheezy so I’ll just walk I think. It’s really pretty where I live but I’m a bit tired of it now!

Sharkie, yes, bike-run-bike would be ideal, but I'm not leaving my bike at the Visitor Centre unattended.
There's a bike hire shop, so maybe I could look into parking my bike there while I'm gone if they'll let me.
It doesn't matter that much though. I prefer running on my own, although it would be nice to do a group run sometimes. I also volunteer on the Severn Valley Railway on Saturdays, although I could swap days.

Thanks. I was well wrapped up, including merino wool shorts under my leggings!
Had an easy run on Wednesday, but otherwise walking. I don't feel at much risk of slipping on the forest tracks, as generally you can run on the grassy verge if it looks icy.

My flat is so cold I'm finding it quite hard to do my indoors exercises. Twenty minutes barre and an hour's walk with the dog was all I managed today - but tomorrow is my double athletics session at Lee Valley.
