Good luck with those ambitions, at the end of the day. Have you any races pencilled in to test yourself? Great to see you, D! (forest plodder) I'd argue that you were ever a plodder! Rather a nice running style if I remember correctly. And don't forget that our old friend Ceal was told to stop running in her mid sixties, partly down to arthritic degeneration in the knees. Only went on to break world records when she turned 70. |

forest plodder 10 mile off road is pretty good anyway (says the woman who can't actually run* a single mile these days!) We sometimes just have to shift our targets and what we want from running/athletics. I wanted this to be a performance thread of sorts - but that includes all sorts of aspirations. * can just about run walk it, and yes I know I have other talents) |

I did a 10k the other day where 45:04 was only good enough for third in the over 70s.

Ah yes, Ceal. Lovely lady and VERY inspirational. I got to know her through Runners World and she became a close friend. She ran a 21:50 5k in her late 60s. She took the W70 world records for 1500m and 5k as far as I remember. Incredibly good runner at all distances from 1500 to half marathon, her favourites being around 3-5k. Very helpful and supportive to other athletes -she gave me so much encouragement to take up sprinting in my mid 50s when other people (mainly know all men I'm afraid!) kept telling me it was a recipe for disaster Don't know if you can access Power of 10. But here's her page if you can. She's 82 now - still does massive walk challenges but doesn't run much. She did it all! thepowerof10.info |

Thanks for the update on Ceal! Runner's World is where I knew her a bit from too. Glad to hear of what she is doing currently.
