Good to see all the amazing running things some of us oldies are still getting up to! I'm still pretty limited in what I can do at the moment due to long-term hamstring and glute injury from last summer. It's been at least six months now since I did any serious running, had a layoff for 2-3 months then came back very cautiously doing C25K, but when I tried to up the distance I could feel the injury properly kicking in again. Completely wiped me out of this year's xc league, about which I was quite gutted as I do love doing the xc! I did manage 5 miles on a slow fartlek last week, but could really feel it in the hamstring. Think I will have to give in and go back to the physio - I've been doing the exercises she gave me last time for the same injury, but I don't feel like I'm making much progress. Ho hum ....... |

Sorry you are struggling with hamstring and glute issues Schnecke, I had the same on and off (mostly on) for nearly 3 years, new physio that uses acupuncture was the answer in the end, 2 treatments and I have been fine since, even managed to train for a marathon last year.

Thanks Mrs J - it's great to see you are back on track again after a long period when I know you were having problems. I will go back to see my physio again and see what she says, and have also been recommended a different sports therapist who specialises in myofascial release and who has apparently worked wonders on my friend's partner! I had acupuncture for a different injury some years ago, and definitely found it beneficial, so I will look into that as well. I'll try anything to be honest! It's strange how I miss my long weekend runs, the places I can't get to any more because I can't run that far, and - weirdest of all - that feeling of tiredness, even exhaustion, that you get after a long run or a hard effort. I'm going to training at the club tonight as I need to work a bit harder and feel that muscle tiredness than means I've put the effort in! |

I knew you were injured Snaily but I wasn’t sure what was wrong. Hope you get some answers. I guess just because you had something similar before doesn’t necessarily mean the same rehab will work this time? I missed xc this season too but that was through choice! Every match was so blooming muddy I just couldn’t face it.

Hi Schnecke I just wondered how the training is going. I see from your training log that you are still in action 🤤

Seems there's a lack of storming going on - or are we all on the over 50s thread now?

I'm still storming and struggling, although I'm a lot nearer 70 than 60 (and feel it half the time) At this very moment I'm wondering if I can gather the energy and will power to do my weights/gym session. I really should and there's no-one stopping me, but me. Perhaps it's time to revitalise the thread? |

More limping than storming from me these past few months, hoping to be back storming in 2022!

We could revitalise the stormin' so long as tea cups count. I'm approaching my year-end distance target and I don't think I'm likely to reach it again - 65 next birthday. On the other hand, in retirement I can take as much time as it needs

I have this plan to do a heptathlon when I'm 70, just for my own satisfaction. That gives me just over a year to get everything working.
