Oh Mrs Jigs TWO doses of extreme sympathy from me.
The new sprain must feel like a further heavy blow to your quest for running fitness and enthusiasm. Your earlier post noting your frustration with recovery really resonates with me. I get to a 'Do I REALLY want to do this?' stage - do you?
Of course you are still a superb runner and capable of more fabulous races and events... of that I'm sure, but I reckon frustration and recognition of the inevitable diminution of one's abilities can't help but knock the desire.
And before anyone goes on about WAVA scores and 'running is all about enjoyment' - well yes of course it is but that doesn't mean we don't have to deal with the complicated emotions it throws up about something we have placed inportance in.
Crikey! Does that make sense? (xxxx to MrsJ)

Thank you Sharkie, you are so right! Luckily my ankle has improved with a few days rest, my desire and determination has not abandoned my quite yet, I am even contemplating a marathon in May, not to race as such, more to help me keep to a plan to maintain quality training in readiness for my autumn marathon training, I am trying to persuade Jigs to join me in my quest...

"Have you got any plans for the weekend?" young lad on till asks me. I told him I had a cross country race on Sunday. He looks at me quizzically. "Are you doing it for fun?" so I tell him that I'm running for my club in a league race. Not sure he believed me! Told him that age is just a number

I'm so pleased to read this - you've just had some bad luck.
What a good idea to use a not-raced spring marathon to prepare for an autumn targeted one. IN YOUR CASE - you being one of the few runners who is actually best suited to that distance!

That's good Mrs Jigs, a race to focus on and it sounds perfect!
I can't decide if I'm just being pathetic or I'm still recovering from the nasty cold (do you really have to 'recover' from a cold??) I had a couple of weeks ago. I took so many walking breaks during parkrun this morning. I just wasn't up for it and I don't really know why.

You really do need to recover from a cold Daisy, it can take more out if you than you realise, especially if your respiratory has been compromised. Hope you are fully recovered soon. Are you still planning the marathon you mentioned? We may do the shorter distance.
