Even though I'm getting older and slower I can still race well - a perfect St. Neot's HM yesterday

I decided to tackle a track session I last did NINE years ago, which as we over 60s know can make a big difference in speed. In Nov 2010 I sprinted (200 - 300 - 200) (150 -250 - 150), (100- 200 - 100) 4 minutes between reps, a bit longer between sets.I've been building up my speed endurance this winter but that looked a bit TOO hard nine years later so I settled on cutting 80m from each set and did: 180 - 250 - 180, 120 - 200 - 120, 80 - 160 - 80 keeping the recovs the same. It was well tough but I did it and kept pace and form up. Am hopeful for just one more PB before I hang my spikes up! |

Yesterday morning that was. Not today. Today - deep sigh - I might be 66 but I'm working.

I feel I am really struggling with running pace post marathon (and fall) I am so slow, relatively speaking, not sure why both events have taken so much out of me and I am not sure how to handle it, I feel frustrated at the moment, I am on my final week of post marathon recovery and need to think of a plan on how to get back to reasonable training pace.

Derby 10 for me yesterday. Managed to maintain my 66% wava, so quite pleased with that (the course had been altered due to flooding and was quite congested in places, though I don't know that I would have been much faster on the original route!).

Maybe you just need a bit longer recovery time Mrs J? That marathon did take a fair bit out if you and the fall was a nasty one. Maybe just extend the recovery plan for another week or two to take account of that fall? Well done stilldreaming! I finished my racing year with a 66% WAVA on Sunday. Not where I'd have wanted to be, and I've missed out on a club race series trophy for the first time for years which is disappointing. I need to stay injury free next year. On the upside I will be the youngest in my age category instead of the oldest (you move on the Jan 1st after your relevant birthday in our club.) |

Oh dear Mrs J, you're certainly going through it at the moment.
