I did this event last year. There is barely any light on the course - the village doesn't even have street lights!! You'll need a good head torch :) You are allowed to cycle in support. Depending on your friend's pace you could cover quite a few miles in 6 hours - a marathon training programme might be a good plan to follow.

I now have a head torch :-) but I'm not going to go out in the dark with it until the snow and ice disappear! I attempted my first "intentional" run/walk on Friday and have suffered from it ever since :-o My left buttock is killing me. I went for a recovery run this morning and it's much less painful to slow plod than it is to walk - even around the house! Who knew run/walking could be so tricky? Any advice? I don't know whether it's because I should have tried shorter distances first, or longer running bits, or slower walking bits. Any ideas or suggestions?

What kind of course is this? Not really out of idle curiosity - it affects what kind of training you would need. Mind-numbing interminable laps of the local athletic track? From Canterbury to Dover and back along the M2? An off-road 1 mile loop round the local woods? A ten-mile road/pavement circuit taking in some pretty villages?

Or perhaps 24 hours on a treadmill?

I even heard of a 24 hour race up and down the stairs of a multi-storey car park. Some people are certifiable.

It's just over 6.5 mile loops, mainly farm tracks as far as I know

So training for that might involve running loops round farm tracks. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Eat Fruesli Bar. Repeat. :-)

Not long to go now and I'm just wondering how many green bottles to have on the wall to start with ;-)
