Despite sticking to long runs of only 10 to 13 miles, I seem to be getting there. 37:10 chip time at my target race for the season, the Eastleigh 10K, which is my first time racing faster than 6 min/mile and my first WAVA over 80. Only 10 seconds to knock off, but that may not be 'till Eastleigh next year, with the other 10Ks I'm likely to do being slower courses. My training paces for reps & intervals need to be faster now.

Well done Rob. Is 10k your favourite race distance?

I planned on doing the Bridgwater 10k on April 15th. BUT I sustained an injury three weeks ago and Im gonna have to pull out of it. So bloody frustrating. Im desperate to get back running asap (I was only training for a week on my return from Ghana on 1st Mar). Ive been trying to break 37 mins for ages now (my potential is more like 36:30, pb is only 38:02).

80+ wava is top bombing rob, nice one. I went from struggling to get under 37 for 10k to running two sub 37s back to back and a bit more when I ran 1.17.05 for a half marathon the other week. I'd love to have a shot at another 10k and try and get under 36 or maybe even 35 now, but like Adders I've picked up an injury. Done something to my lower back and can't run at all. Done nothing since Sunday. I had hoped to get an easy run in this morning, but it only took two steps to realise I was going nowhere.

ran 37:44 at Fradley a few weeks back and hoping to go sub 37 at the Stone 10k in late June. My 5K PB is currently 18:00 but I'm confident of going sub 18 in the next attempt. Just lacking the ability to maintain that pace for 10k at the mo

Just need to get this damn marathon out the way in April, so I can get back to proper training! ;)

Thanks Adders & Daviec, I am well pleased with 37:10, and would have been content with 37:59. I target my training for 10K. I haven't a clue about training for shorter distances other than a general idea of gym and carefully managed track work which I'm not too keen on: one track session of reps per week is enough for me! I got injury niggles last year due to weekly mileage of 25 or more so changed to be light on my heels last summer and am now up to maximums of about 40 miles per week, but spread over 7 or 8 runs when I can fit them in. I'm keen to avoid injury and accept that I may be able to train harder, but I'm looking for a long term goal that requires me to do 10K in just under 36 min in 2 1/2 years (to get a top 3 position for over 50s in the HRRL).

daviec: Do u know what the exact problem is? Have you seen doctor/physio?
pdavey: What marathon are you doing? You dont seem too excited about it! Marathon training will help for 10k... dont worry, theres plenty of time.
rob: 10k is a good race distance to specialise in IMO.

I reckon I will resume running this week - perhaps thursday. Fingers crossed my foot injury has recovered properly and I wont feel the pain. Im desperate to get back in shape again!

Adders: from my internet research I reckon its piriformis syndrome, so I've been stretching, icing, etc. I've got pyhsio appointment on Friday to see what they say. Hopefully something they can sort out quickly for me. 11 days till my marathon and I've only done 9 miles in the last 10 days :(

Piriformis syndrome is pain in the ass. I thought you said pain in lower back? Anyway, lets see what the physio says. Do u have free physio?

Yep, but it can manifest itself as lower back pain if the tight piriformis puts pressure on the sciatic nerve. I also have pain in my glutes and hamstring when I run. I don't get free physio unfortunately, so hopefully it won't take too much input from them.
