What time should you be comfortably running a half and a 20 miler to be thinking of trying a 3.10 marathon ?

Welcome to Fetch Simon

I can't speak from experience alas but would guess somewhere very close to your half time ;-)

It very much varies person to person - some folks with 1:25 go sub-3 others with 1:30 struggle to break 3:30

Hello simonnew - I would pop into the sub 3.15 thread - they'll keep you right!

Your times look fine for 3:10 Simonnew, i guess plan is FLM qualifier ? Otherwise i would say go out at 3:00 pace and risk a crash and burn

Thanks guys, I was aiming for 3.20 but over the last few months I feel I've had a few decent races and having a club mates telling me I should aim higher.

Davelord, I think my GFA is 3.15 for London? I'm 40 now and will still be 40 when I complete the Brighton marathon in a few weeks.
3.10 is still a huge amount I would be knocking off if I were able to complete it.:)

Expect that GFA to drop from 3.15 to 3.10 for next year.
