Bumping this for the benefit of anybody wondering about how to approach a 20 mile race in marathon build-up!

I'll be trying the approach outlined by Gobi on Page 2 in training in the next few weeks :-)

Funky Chicken
It's been on my watch list for a while. Worked very effectively when I followed the advice last autumn, though I managed not to follow it earlier this month and almost came unstuck as a result!

Oh dear. Did I start this thread?

Before I saw the light that road races are the devil's spawn and that fell racing and orienteering was the way forward....

Thanks for bumping this Clare. Had pretty much decided to go with something like the approach outlined here at Ashby this weekend anyway, but it is good to read reassurance that it is a reasonable thing to do.

But that's quite a hard s3ssion to do every week Fitz? No wonder it's tough especially as I assume it's part of a full week of training? How about running your long runs easy and doing this once in 3 for example?

About This Thread

I'm interested in what people think about them - do you do them? How do you run them

Advice from Gobi:

5 miles @ MP + 60-90( time to get loose so start close to 90 and work down)
5 miles @ MP + 45-60
5 miles @ MP + 30-45
4 miles @ MP
1 mile however you like
1 mile cool down

The 1 mile cool down came into force as I discovered coaching nobody wants to back off at 19miles and look like they have blown up so we invented the go race the last mile and then do a cool down rule
