I've entered the Essex 20 on 4 March as part of my preparation for the Brighton Marathon on 15 April.

With a 6 week gap between the 20 and my target race what is the thinking on how I should approach it?

I had originally thought that I would do it as a race rehearsal, ie try to do the whole thing at my planned Marathon Pace (8.30-8.35) but it's been suggested to me that this will be too tough a session and I won't have recovered in time for the main event, or at least that I would have a big impact on the next week of training due to fatigue.

Failing that, then, should I run, say, the first half at easy pace then try to do the second half at PMP?

Or is there a better option?

Or am I worrying for nothing and I should just run it and see what happens?

Any thoughts or advice gratefully received. Thanks, folks.

*lurks*

Doing the Trimpell 20 on the same day and for the same reason, although my target race is Manchester Marathon on 29th April, which obviously has a longer gap.

Ta, Pudds. I hadn't spotted that.

Got something to say?
