On race day, if you feel like you're running too slowly, slow down.

Don't worry about life getting in the way of your training plan. It's fine to miss the occasional session. Just make sure you do whatever you can to keep the long run every week.

Be prepared for the eventuality of any and all possibilities afterwards in terms of any further marathons. I've known people saying "I'm only ever going to do one" who then go on and do lots, and people who've said "yeah, marathons are my distance", done one, then said "actually, you know what, no thanks".

You may not sleep too well the night before (nerves, excitement etc.) so make sure that the night before THAT is a really good sleep.

be prepared for how tough it can be psychologically during the race (and the long training runs)....swingning back and forth between euphoria and wanting to give up. you need to believe in your self and keep reminding yourself youve done the training this is just the next step

I did my first marathon and said ten minutes after when can we do another? After the next I swore I'd never do another and six years later I haven't

If you're running with the Kenyans you have gone off too fast.
