No, not for me but I have offered to provide a training plan for a group of runners towards the Glasgow 10k on 2nd September 2012. Could someone point me in the direction of a training plan that will take a non runner ( with no underlying health issues) to the start line in 10 weeks? Would completion of the 10k in an hour be a reasonable aim for someone like that ?

You know what? From what I remember five years ago, that's a pretty tight timetable for such a big ask...

I did my first 10k in under an hour as a new runner so yes I think it's reasonable. I know nothing about plans however, I just did my own thing.

I think an hour might be too ambitious for some people... depends what sort of fitness level they are starting from. For others it will be perfectly achievable though.

It took me four attempts to run under an hour for 10k!

How long did it take you to get up to 10k PQ, and what base were you starting from?

It completely depends on the individual. I took up running from doing sweet fanny adams for 9 years after school, and was doing sub 50 min 10ks in training 3 times a week after a couple of weeks. It wasn't good training, as I just went out as hard as I could those 3 times, and did nothing else.

10k in an hour is not an unreasonable target.

an hour is too ambitious for qutie a few people, esp newbies

If it wasnt , there would not be a sub 60 minute 10k thread on here

youll start to exclude people if you put that sort of time on it

Im assuming your merry band is all shapes and sizes??

I started with 5k DeeGee, did a race for life then stepped up to 10k. I had a base of nothing i.e. never did any running before. I suppose it took about 3 months to get to 10k distance.
