I wrote a blog about fruit fetcheveryone.com/blog/5988/0/0#blog389398 and then thought that, following on from the 2017 thread fetcheveryone.com/forum__59506__1__100_different_fruits_and_vegetables_for_2017 I'd start one up for 2019.

The basic rules; anything you would count as a fruit or veg really, including pulses and beans but excluding grains and starches. You can post your full lists, or just additions and totals. It starts easy, gets trickier and then the last twenty or so …

(I don't even have my own list yet - though I have ticked off my annual parsnip.)

Interesting - I presume we need different species of F&V, rather than including variant strains?

I'b be hopeless at this - I'm getting better at getting 5 a day (or is the target 7 now?) but tend to stick to my fruity favourites - cherries, raspberries, grapefruit - rather than lots of variety...

Fetch, that's not minimised my links! What's happening ;-) ?

Supplementary rule: to count, there should be one portion consumed (80g fresh, 30g dried). So eg a clove of garlic or a couple of slices of ginger wouldn't count, but could add up over the year. Rule may be waived if you encounter something you try but find so repulsive you will never eat it again.

Yes Dougs, no counting ten varieties of apple. Though eg orange, mandarin, satsuma would be three.

If you think they are different vegetables, UC. Eg I wouldn't count different lettuces separately, but rocket would be an addition. You might have to munch your way through several bags to get enough though ;-) bunny

I like the idea of this. We used to receive most of our fruit and veg from a box scheme - it supplied us with weekly offerings of what was in season at the time, so we often received things that we wouldn't necessarily choose to buy ourselves. I remember the first time we received some Jerusalem artichokes!

We haven't used the scheme for a while so this will help to remind us of variety. We also grow a few veg for ourselves so I can add lots of kale when that comes around..

Lunch today was a salad - so a good start with 7 items:

Hummus - chick pea
Lettuce
Rocket
Tomato
Beetroot
Red pepper
Radish

And just like parkrun, it isn’t a race... it is the taking part that counts

And to quote the 700 club - 100 is neither necessary nor sufficient

First meal after the thread was launched:
Sweet potatoes
Potatoes
Onion
Garlic
Leek
Celery
Squash
Red lentils
Green lentils
Split peas
Celeriac
Turnip
Carrot
Parsnip

Ok, it doesn't count but I still think it's a good start.
