An unexpected but nonetheless welcome warm and sunny afternoon set the scene for a lovely couple of hours in Dudley in the West Midlands. Our second Big Fetch Mile of the year drew a nice mixture of long-term Fetchies and brand new ones too.
Out of 37 finishers, 25 people managed to beat their predicted time - quite a feat in the warm weather, and especially considering that some of our runners had come to us from the local road relays. Without those extra miles, we could easily have seen a new Big Fetch Mile overall record, as Gym_Bunny led the field home with a silky 5:08. But Clare1976 has claimed our female record, with a superbly-timed 5:57 - well done!
As always, thank you to everyone who helped me, either carrying stuff to and from the car, assembling flags, or just saying very kind things and helping to keep me relaxed! And a special mention to Nellers for sharing his birthday with us all.
Here's a Facebook album of excellent pictures from the day, courtesy of Mark Bailey, a stalwart of Dudley parkrun, and parent/guardian to some very speedy youngsters!
All of our Big Fetch Mile events to date have attracted new people to sign up to the site. If you're new to Fetch, I do hope you'll stick around. Our site is free for everyone, and as I hope you've discovered, we don't really mind how fast or slow you think you can run - you're all welcome.
Our next finalised Big Fetch Mile is in Woking, but I'll be aiming to sort out a Glasgow date for June, along with a return to Bedford, and events in Manchester and Cardiff later in the year. Keep an eye on fetcheveryone.com/bigfetchmile for updates.
