The Harriers were formed in 2003 and train out of the Hermitage Leisure Centre, in Whitwick, near Coalville in Leicestershire. The club started off with about 6 members and has now grown to nearly 100 members on the books. We cater for a wide range of abilities, with times in the range 12m/mile down to 5m 20/mile and everything in between! The two club nights are Tuesday's and Thursday's, runners go off in groups according to pace - this way all our runners end up back at the club at a similar time. Alternate Tuesday's see 'effort' sessions taken by one of the club's more senior runners.
All our members enter quite a few races and we also compete in the Leicestershire Road Running League. We were crowned 2008 Div 1 champions. Although there is a competitive edge, this is only against other clubs, we always hang back and make sure all our runners get a loud cheer as they cross the line - something we are noted for by the other Leicestershire clubs (as none of them do it!!) The social aspect of running is very important to our club and our committee members strive to ensure that each and every member is made to feel welcome and is helped to achieve whatever their running goals are.
