Mounts Bay Harriers are the newest local Road Running, Triathlon and Athletics Club in Penwith, being set up by local triathletes and runners in June 2005. The club meets every Monday and Thursday evenings at 7pm for social runs of varying lengths at Mounts Bay School Dome, Heamoor, Penzance. The club now has over 100 members and regularly has 20-30 turning up for training sessions. Of the group that turn out there is always a wide standard of athletes from beginners, who are especially welcome, to accomplished triathletes and runners. Training sessions are split into 3 groups for social runs / fast walks from 3 to 7 miles. There is also access to a 400m grass track, indoor sports-hall dome, gym, classrooms, etc. On Thursday evening along with the road running there are also hour long coached sessions, taken by a fully qualified British Athletics Association coach which is open to all club members. Long runs and cycles are soon to start at weekends .Throughout the summer the club also regularly organised open water swim sessions, usually off Battery Rocks Penzance. It is intended that through the winter the swimming will carry on in the new Penzance leisure centre.
Junior section - We have a group of about forty 8 -14 years olds who are coached on Friday evenings from 1900-2000 for sports-hall athletics. The junior section also enter indoor and outdoor competitions throughout the region.
Mounts Bay Harriers are now also affiliated to both UKA and BTA.
