@Jackdaw Firefox or any browser focused on privacy should block it. My Firefox at work (basic FF essentially) blocks Instagram's embedded posts by default.

Interesting. One thing I would like to know is where the manual entry for gym workouts is. I only know it because I remembered the name of the page and just type it into the address bar. gym.php I've never been able to navigate to it, or find where to navigate to it!

Overall I like it. I prefer the red menu bar but that may just be familiarity. (I knew something had changed on my desktop yesterday but wasn’t sure what so nice to see side by side

I don't like it on desktop for the reasons I have outlined before, the mouse movement flicking to neighbouring sub-menu, the sub-menus overlapping the top of the active window, especially the forum notifications, and the general obtrusiveness and excessive empty space. I'm neutral about the mobile experience.

I also prefer red menu bar. Easier to read on the contrast, especially with new smaller font.

@Diogenes I understand most of your issues I think - but the overlapping the active window bit? Isn't that only really a problem if your mouse is up amongst the menus?

I'll see what I can do to smooth out the flickering to adjacent menus.

When browsing I tend to click on the Fetch logo to get begin with and any movement down there to the item I want to look at brings up the menu which covers up my target, albeit temporarily, therefore it happens on almost every interaction.

@Diogenes and @DoricQuine so if I'm understanding correctly, your menu selection error is caused because you put your mouse over (say) 'Blogs', and then as your mouse makes its way to (say) 'Add Entry', it tickles the 'Games' tab, and then all of a sudden the blog sub-menu has gone.

I've added a brief delay (0.1 of a second) that will stop adjacent menus from popping up as your mouse makes its journey. So it can cross safely from 'Blogs' to 'Add Entry', and if it tickles other tabs en route, it should ignore them.

See how you go with that, and hopefully I can chip away at the things you don't like

Mmm, still prefer old font. OK on mobile but seems paler and smaller on laptop. On default skin, so tried others but went straight back to default, too glaring! Increased zoom but it doesn't sit right somehow.

Point 2 (menus on mobile): much better now 🤩

There's an overwritten menu on the Fetchworld page, in the Big Map view. It makes it impossible to click 'Close' when you click on an item on the map to see what it is.

I was having same probs as Dio on Airmac used with mouse. Much better with recent fix. I hardly notice any differences on Iphone, perhaps 'feels' a bit more efficent. I'm not keen on the new font as it feels a bit primary school to me (reminds me of Comic Sans) but then I'm an old school typographer. Galley proofs! Hot metal!

Just looking at your screenshots and the comments about white space, maybe consider the energy and environmental impact of white space and consider going dark instead?

@cathrobinson there's a Darth Mode skin which does just that - scroll to the bottom of any page to try it out.

I still have to vote against on mobile for the same reason as previously mentioned. Phone/user error - but something that was working well before now isn’t, so I can’t vote that I like it!

On my ipad clicking on a menu tab now makes the screen jump and flicker, with a submenu that pops up (looking better than it did yesterday) but then disappears again before i can even process what was on it, and definitely before i could select anything, causing it to jump and flicker again as the screen re-sorts itself. Makes me feel quite ill, and for me it’s unusable (if i close my eyes during this time it’s useable, but i still have no access to any of the sub menus. Yesterday it didn’t do this! Though as i say the background colour change of the submenu box is now better.

I selected unsure for desktop as i’ve not looked atit on there yet!

iPad submenus seem not to work. Clicking the main menu flashes the submenu but then loads the default page for the main item directly. iPhone menus are great

I really, REALLY like fetch and don’t use any other running sites. The language I use below is exaggerated to emphasise my overall reaction.

I will adapt to any changes that are not to my taste; no drama.

That said, I’m finding the changes ‘busy’ and the colour/font/space changes giving a generally “insipid” impression.

The second menu that appears when I select a tab has irritated me vs the old drop down options.

The header in the “old” screen shot looks better than the “new” one to me.

PS. I’m old. Fetch is where my online running world is. I’m very happy to improvise, adapt and overcome any modifications that aren’t to my liking.

@panad @Pothunter sorry about the broken iPad menus - I fixed that earlier, but a subsequent change has buggered something up. I will get onto it first thing.

I've opened my laptop and the font has shrunk since earlier - have you been playing again as it's too big if I fiddle with it, although this typing is in a bigger font.

I haven't touched the font size today (or yesterday). Also I'm not sure which text you're referring to

I like the menus, but the font size / style choice seems to have changed so that all fonts (on this site only) appear blurred on my monitor. Like it used to do when you got a laptop and set the screen resolution incorrectly. Is that just me?

@larkim - do you have your browser zoom level set to the default value?

I prefer the red banner on desktop (still seem to have it on Samsung mobile).

On Android, could the burger menu be wider and/or what's next to it be further away? I often had difficulty hitting it, and now it's worse.

The desktop is way too bright. I use Redmond skin.

I've changed to Darth mode, which is very black and depressing but at least it isn't searing my eyes from my head and making it ache.

I’ll do some work on the individual skins soon to give you more options.

Fetch, just checking in on lunchbreak, so on iphone rather than ipad and i couldsee i had fmail, but couldn’t see the message unless i switched phone to landscape. (This may have always been the case as tbh i rarely use it on my phone…)

On iPad:
When I am in a ‘training’ option eg log, I miss having all of the other training options eg ‘plan’, ‘overview’, ‘kit’ or whatever displayed along the top. Instead, I now have to press ‘training’ again to get these other options, which then flash up just briefly, then disappear. Perhaps I am already misremembering the “good old days” but the old version was easier to use (for me).

@Angus Clydesdale the Redmond skin should be a bit less bright now if you want to give it a try.

Just to be clear (or maybe not🤪……), I believe it is the same for each menu section (on iPad at least).

Ie when you first hit a new tab/section from a different tab, eg ‘training’ from ‘forum’, all sub options of training pop up and stay visible for you to make a selection. Once in a category/section, any subsequent hit on the same category just offers a brief ‘flash’ of the other options within that section. I’m generally too slow to hit the new option within the ‘flash’. Even another two seconds would probably be enough, even for me.

@Alice the Camel I've amended the top bar so that it will hopefully fit nicely on your screen width. Could you have another look please and amend the mobile poll if you're happy?

Just one comment - I think that Train>Your log should be in the first column when you click on 'Train'. It's in the second column but it's the part I use the most of that group. Is there a way of seeing which of the pages is most used and putting those in the first column?

I think the mobile webpage is fine too I normally just click watch list or notifications so can't recall what it was like but I like how to find things now.

No still cannot switch between sub menus. Clicking on tab goes straight to page and does not open sub menu. Clicking on menu bar opens sub menu for that page only. On Android

On desktop I really like the menus that appear when mousing over. The descriptions work well and it is all good.
I'm not sure about losing the menu bar when you click on just a top-level menu. For example, I think it used to be the case that if you clicked "Train" to go to the overview, there was also a menu bar with the sub-menu options? Same for "Race". I liked that.

Still on desktop, the main font works well for me. It's smaller, but good.

On iPhone (an SE so a small iPhone) the drop down menus have spacing that looks off to me. The text of the menu items is close to the divider line above them, while well off the lower dividing lines. Still on aesthetics, I'm not sure about the size of the text of the sub-menu items. It's a bit smaller than the main menu items but it seems in that awkward zone where it is small enough that you can tell, but not small enough to be distinct. Maybe I'll get used to it.

Still on iPhone, I think the general text is a bit smaller than I'd expect? I can read it ok, but I think it is all smaller than most sites. Again, maybe I'll get used to it.

I have a desktop tab open from yesterday with the old layout so I can compare side by side and have to say the new look is a lot better. What happened to the greeting in the top left though?

Just wanted to apologise for not getting back to you sooner, I’ve been out winning bowls matches this evening! Thanks so much for taking the time to try and sort out my issue.
I have an iPhone XR (so quite old!). Holding it in landscape does indeed solve the problem. I think I may have increased font size on my phone as my eyesight isn’t brilliant without my glasses…

Zoom is off (I think) and changing font size doesn’t make a difference. No worries - it works in landscape so that’s good enough for me 😊

Not a fix me now 'problem' but can the fancy lovely new menus be made to match the skins please as using Darth Mode to limit whiteness is kinda 'broken' by the current white new menu system. As i say no need to do it anytime soon, probably better to get it set up right and then sort out the various diff colours needed for the diff skins.

As always, to begin with at least, I don't like the changes. The main problem (on a laptop) is the dropdown when you hover over the menu bar items is too intrusive and gets in the way, especially if you accidentally move the mouse to the side before dragging it down to click on one of the sub-menu items - then one of the other sub-menus instead before you've clicked on the thing you want. It makes everything feel quite jerky and difficult to use. It's like trying to stab a fly with a pin.

Yes, I guess you'd put it down to user carelessness or having my mouse settings too sensitive.

Maybe it's muscle memory, I am moving the mouse instinctively to where I used to go but, because there is more space, I am activating the other menus before I get there. This is mainly from the blogs menu.

I almost always use my mobile now. It does look cleaner somehow....

Interestingly enough, as I write this comment, it is a good sized font? Whatever size that is versus the main text, and also it is black as I write.

@lammo the skins all take different approaches to handling the header colour.

it's fine on the desktop, but it takes way too much space on a mobile, I think. That said, I agree with others (e.g. @MazH) in that the contrast on the desktop is a bit fuzzy.

Before on a laptop/desktop all the sub-menu items were on one line, so you could very quickly scan across to find the one you want. Now they are in multiple rows, so it takes longer to find the one you want as you have to read across multiple lines. Having the description for each one does help though, especially new users to the site, so like most changes it initially seems a bit off, but in 2 or 3 weeks will be totally used to it.

I mainly use my phone or tablet. Fine on both of those. Will check out the new look on my computer later. Ta!

I like it. Cleaner, easier to navigate and probably easier for noobs to understand and find their way around.

Instinctively I don't like the font (is it Arial?) but it is nice and clear so I can just sulk in the corner

I don’t mind it on my mobile as it looks much the same but on my iPad I’m not liking the info bar across the top of the page, I liked the information bar being a drop down list. If any of that makes sense

I like the expanded view on desktop and the descriptions are helpful, but IMO it takes up too much space on mobile, maybe add a setting for a compact view that hides the descriptions?

I agree with K5 Gus, and I prefer the old font.

@LipGloss prior to the change, the sub-menu items on big screens were in a horizontal row underneath the main menu. The trouble was, with some of the menus e.g. Training and Games, there were so many sub-menu things, it was getting extremely cramped. This new menu will hopefully give them more room to breathe, and of course there's room for descriptions - which I hope will give new users a quicker idea of the breadth of content available on the site.

I see there are a few people who have voted against the menu change. If you haven't done so already, it would be a help if you explain why. As you might have seen from the comments, I have nudged and nurdled my initial changes to knock the rough edges off. If there's something you don't like, perhaps I can fix it for you.

To summarise (and I know I am repeating mysel) I really don't like the menus on desktop, they are far too intrusive and being non-linear it's harder to locate things

This is what I experience a lot of the time. I click on a menu item (i.e. Blogs), move my mouse slightly and it jumps to a neighbouring sub-menu

Currently on an Android tablet, not tried desktop or mobile yet. I like the clean look, but my gripe is that if I select any of the main menu options with a view to then choosing a sub-menu item, it doesn't give me time to choose a sub-menu item and instead takes me straight to the menu option. Which is a bit irritating.

@Alice the Camel that's definitely not what's intended, rather than being a design choice. Looks like you have an iPhone - can you tell me what model?

Also, when I go to look at my forum notifications the menus pop-up temporarily cover up the button

On PC, I like the change as a whole. I have typically found the shallow submenu area a challenge, even after you deepened it. It is much improved now. Problem solved. Thank you.

A slight issue now is that I see the top menu on the maximised Fetchpoint map, which I don't think you intended. I'd call it a teething issue. I'm on an Apple, a Mac mini. This one is up to date, so the old does_not_work_too_old reason for odd behaviour doesn't apply.

Not for me. Really don't like the dropdowns, and the general look is of tiny text in acres of wishy-washy space (on a laptop). Awful font.

I'm not sure. It feels a bit like the forums for example are almost being squished into the available space and they didn't before (however I like the short description of what each game is in the toolbar)

@Jen HB I haven't changed the size of anything except for in the header. It's possible that the old font was a bit chunkier.

@jacdaw is it the area underneath the sub-menus that you're seeing as the wishy-washy acres? Trying to understand what you're seeing. As for the awful font, it's not something I've plucked out of nowhere - it's used extensively across the internet, on sites including NASA and Mozilla. But you're entitled to your opinion of course Maybe tomorrow I'll switch you back onto Tahoma.

@Bright Strider sounds like a z-index problem - I've made a note and will hopefully sort asap.

@Alice the Camel in your screenshot, the icons that are normally in the top black bar have been pushed down into the next row - you can see them there faintly. I will see if I can figure out why that's happening ASAP - but whilst I'm doing that, holding your phone in landscape mode should give them the space they need to appear in the right place.

I was interrupted earlier before posting that above. I mainly use my laptop and initially I'm not sure, but I'm sure I'll get used to it in time, as with all the other changes over the years.

I like the new font - feels cleaner and generally more spacious overall, thank you! One bug, one suggestion:

Bug - on my (android) phone, I used to touch the burger on the left hand side to open the menu, then touch the heading of whichever section I wanted, then the sub-menus opened, eg if I wanted the 'your log' page of the training section rather than the trainig front page. Now nothing happens, but when I touch the section header again, it takes me to that page. For example I touch 'shortcuts', first nothing happens, so I touch again and instead of opening my list of shortcuts within the menu, it takes me to the 'manage your shortcuts' page. I have to touch the burger again to see the menu with the 'shortcuts' section actually dropped down for me to pick one. Or I touch 'training' and have to go via the training front page because the sub-menus haven't opened.

Also spotted that on desktop I have to double-click on the menu heading to actually go to that page - I hover over and it drops down the sub-menu, but if I want to go to the training front page, or the main blog page, I have to click twice more on the same heading. (Yes, I know I can move the cursor to the 'all blogs' or 'training overview' link on the sub-menu, but just clicking again in the same place is nice and simple...:-))

Suggestion - on desktop, could the sub-menus be a more contrasting colour to the forum / blog page background, just so they stand out a bit more?

As a designer (but not a web designer!) it's almost too airy for me. Yep, huge acres of white space.

Similar to some others my main issue with the changes is when using via a mobile (iPhone), I’m finding I cannot now open any of the menus to view the sub-menu options. When clicking on the top level (eg shortcuts / train etc) it either seems to do nothing or takes me immediately to the manage shortcuts page / training overview page etc.

Rather than the sub menus being full width, did you try them about 2/3rds of what you made them, ie to take up the width of the main forums column say, so the additional info seen in the right hand column (eg Unread Posts, or Recent Contributions, etc) were not covered over ? I'm finding that as I move my cursor down over towards the Unread Posts box, then the box is being hidden behind the sub menu of whatever heading my cursor passed over on it's way, so I have to move the cursor outside of the sub-menu box to make it disappear.

Drop down is too cluttered not.

It seems now to need far more clicks to see anything useful. For example if I click on forum I would like to (used to) go straight to forum posts, but now need to go via a submenu including options only used occasionally (eg mute list) or have to click several times on the header as an initial click doesn’t seem to register.

On iPhone clicking a menu item doesn’t expand the list. Clicking a 2nd time takes me to the main page for the item and only then is the submenu visible. (Seems to be same as described by CasB above).

On iPad I like the look. I wonder if the submenus should be in alphabetical order? Eg Games has a lot of items and unless you’re familiar with the old list it can be quite hard to find what you’re looking for. Also, there’s quite a bit of blank space under the sub items which could possibly be shrunk down a bit.

Don't like the new font, sorry! On both laptop and phone it is much smaller and more difficult to read for my ancient eyes. I have had to increase the zoom on both the read comfortably.
I'll get used to new menus but it seems more cluttered than old ones.

I like the main heading (am on computer) but following K5 Gus point, the sub menu seems a bit mixed in terms of location particularly on the larger sub-lists, I think because eyes scanning both vertically/horizontally to find something - would there be any merit in either (1) making the sub lists alphabetic in order (eg the Games list), or (2) on Training, maybe group into columns based on a certain family/type logic? eg a column for training, then trackers, then other tools? Appreciate will get used to new locations wherever

It reminded me of the alteration someone had done to the sign for the 'Ankerside Multi-Storey' car park in Tamworth a few years ago. A strategically painted 'W' meant the sign had to be removed and replaced!
