Sadly I think the time has come to bid farewell to my trusty old Garmin Forerunner 205 :( It's taking an age to find satellites and I can't get it to charge, even with a new charger.

So, I need a new one. I don't use a HRM, I need to be able to see current and average pace, distance and time on the screen at the same time. I'd also rather not use a footpod.

Any recommendations? Other brands?

I had a training session with a Garmin rep last week. There are a couple of new Garmin Forerunners being launched in the new year - a 220 and a 620. So expect the prices of the 210 and 610 to come down in the coming months. The 410 has been discontinued.

Other than that, I'd say don't get a 210. I have one and it's a bit rubbish, not half as many functions as the 205 - you can't use if for cycling (really, despite Garmin saying you can. you can't really), you can't upload routes to it and the intervals function is a bit simplistic. It can also be an utter pain-in-the-arse when it comes to uploading data.

The new Garmins are likely to have bluetooth functionality to enable total wireless uploading. Other than that, the guy was quite cagey about what the new toys will look like.

Thanks. I wonder if I should look at other brands?

Wobbling - any idea why the 410 has been discontinued? I ask because when I bought mine in July last year, it was (I think) a relatively new model. Which makes me think they must have decided it is a bit of a drongo.... although never having used any other, I can't compare from a personal perspective.

The bezel idea wasn't particularly well liked, I understand.

It'll be a while before that's out will it? I think I need something now unfortunately. Worth sending the garmin back for repair?

Give them a ring, I'm not sure they repair, but they do exchange for reconditioned ones for not much (my 305 was £45 to replace and it was good as new)
