I am curious to know how many people on here regularly use the treadmill to do their runs?
Being something of a recent convert it would be reassuring to know that I am not alone.

If you use the tready, what kind of runs do you do? How do you get the best out of it?

Very reassuring fleecy ;-)
You are not alone - I regularly used the treadie for intervals, occasionally for tempo and nowadays for hills sessions when it's an awkward time of day or I'm short of time. So yes, it may be second choice for me, but it's a perfectly good workout. I can't keep going for long at the same pace on a treadmill that's why the shorter sharper workouts are perfect for me. Gobi - just the idea of 50k on the treadmill makes me want to lie down on my bed right now.
Only tip from my gym is watch your heart rate if you can, don't just stick to pace. I know my heart rate at the same pace on the treadie is a good 10bpm higher than it is outdoors, mostly due to the heat in the gym.

I use treadmills for interval training, I find it helps (forces) me to keep the same pace for each rep when I want to slow down. It's also very handy when the weather's bad enough for roads and pavements to be treacherous.

Usual sorts of sessions are 800m reps / 1600m reps / progressive runs / pyramids.

I'd rather go to a track but the treadmill in the gym is an awful lot more convenient.

I sometimes run on the treadmill when it's too hot to run comfortably outside! I usually do a progressive 5k - get bored after about 3 miles though I have done as much as 10 on a treadmill.

Shhh, I'm lying down now, lowering my HR! Maybe you're in a properly air conditioned gym? Mind you, it does depend what treadie I'm on - some are directly under the air vents and are much easier/cooler to run on.
Out of interest, an old question this I know, do you do sessions at 1% Gobi?

Good question Lunaman.
I thought that 2% incline was roughly equivalent to the air resistance of running outside. I alway set it to 2%. Maybe that's wrong?
