Torbay shattered, will write more later.

The Playtex London Moonwalk is held in London, starting at Hyde park, to raise awareness (and funds) for breast cancer. 14000 women and about 1000 men dressed up in colourful pink bras to walk 26.2 miles across the city, starting at midnight. I arrived at about 8pm and found a half mile queue to get in. I was glad I had changed in the toilets at the tube. There was a huge marquee big enough to cater for us all. There was a real party atmosphere, a band playing, hot meals for all, before we were warmed up for the off with a world record breaking attempt for the most people to warm up together. I don't think they'll put all 15000 names in the record book though.
I started in the front group at about 23.00 and met loads of happy people to talk and walk away the next 26 miles with. The night was still and cold but very atmospheric. The first few miles passed quite quickly with lots of singing and encouraging beeps and jeers from passing traffic. Then it turned cold and everyone went quiet at around mile 14. By this time I had been walking for over 3 hours; the thought of another 4-6 hours was real grim and sheer will power got me through. This was the hardest race I have ever done, as unlike running, you can't really change your pace or stride. It takes so long to cover the distance but the effort is the same as running. I got through this on the back of my FLM training. I picked up a bad hip injury in March and had to defer FLM until 2008. I spoke to a few marathon runners during the walk and they seemed to think this was harder than running marathons. I have the biggest blisters you can imagine, but my hip is now fine. If you like a challenge have a go walking the moon next year, I won't be there! Torbay Athletic Club and Torbay Tri Club 3:59:26 8:00:00 7:05:00 32.72
