Alwyn This looks like a fantastic event - not brave enough to do it alone so will enter as a four man relay team - The Chislet Four. Like the idea of the all day bar!! Unaffiliated

firemannotsam Really thought I could maintain a reasonable pace for the duration and achieve 10hrs (ish).
Weather/terrain and lack of basic mileage let me down in the end and a niggly knee on the day that wouldn't let me run the last lap.
Still really enjoyed the day Bishops Stortford RC, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service 8:50:00 12:13:42 10:00:00 12:13:42 38.95

THE STORY OF MY 50 MILE CHALLENGE

On the morning of the challenge, at 5.45 am standing at the starting line up, I felt ok. I was just happy to be there with fellow fetchies and other runners, I never knew what I had let myself in for until I started the first lap!!

I was almost the last person when we started, I manage to keep my pace with another runner who was doing it for the 4th time. If not for her I would have gone lost as there was no proper signs at some important post. I was soo shocked to see that the surfaces were different from the one I trained on, there was 4 different surfaces and quite muddy too, soon my plan of running 25 mins run and 5 mins walk went out of the window after 2 laps as it was muddy and it was a challenge lifting my feet let alone running.

And as I prayed for all b4 the challenge for it to be a cool weather, the heaven opened and it was running so much that it got so much muddy as well. All I can say is thank god for doing dance classes as my ankles almost gave way on several occasions I would have fallen down on my face.

I remember that the first 4 laps were quite quicker than I expected and mike asked me would I be able to complete the challenge I said I want to and I will crawl if I had to. The 5th mile took me forever to finish, I was so shattered and I had become emotional at this time and thinking who am I kidding am not going to finish this 3 more laps of this and I will not be able to do it. I couldn¡¦t even see the runner I was keeping my pace with, I was all alone and I felt very emotional. But every time I came round the check point I always manage to keep smiling and be positive that this challenge isn¡¦t going to kill me and I will make it to the end.

Unto the sixth lap, I was just power walking as I could barely run, the lollies from the range rover is all I look 4ward to on the laps as I could barely put anything in my stomach, so thanks for the lollies all the way through my difficult laps.

Then almost half way through the 6th lap, I met Mary and Rachel and I was so happy to see them and finish the 6th lap with them. Mary said she didn¡¦t want to continue that she had had enough and we tried to persuade her but she said no and was very emotional and so off we went to our 7th lap, Rachel and I, and it was great to have someone to talk to, even though our feet were screaming for us to stop we kept going on till the end, just like I found someone to finish the London marathon with, I was glad to find Rachel and we motivated each other till the end, it was amazing.

I will definite be back and do this challenge again because I loved it and can¡¦t wait till next year; Mike and the whole crew really looked after the runners. I so happy that I was a part of an amazing experience, thanks to all the fetchies for their amazing support, you all are brilliant ƒº
