Alan PB! Well it was my first race. Not impressed with the course layout with wheelchairs bearing down on you from the opposite direction. Unaffiliated 41:53 48:50 1:00:00 57:57 45.56
paulhalford It was windy and I'm not sure this revised course is the super-fast one I once thought it was. However, I always seem to be blaming the conditions or course. I thought I was fitter than ever before but this confirms I'm slower. Werrington Joggers 32:37 34:17 33:59 34:32 76.56
Sime good race, bit of a shambles at the start, warmed up when the sun came came out. Didn't really struggle, kept a fairly steady pace, not too sure about some of the distance markers, seemed a bit inconsistent. Pushed from 8k, but struggled a bit on the home straight, but a new 10k PB by 37 seconds. San Domenico RC 38:45 43:57 44:59 44:49 59.10
smash I AM going to beat an hour, as I'm a much better runner now than I was in 2004, when I did my last 10k.

Well, I did it! A bit busy on the first km, but that stopped me from going out too fast. Was averaging about 5:20/km for the first five, but then really started to feel it. Was hoping to go under 53, but 7 minutes off my PB isn't at all bad. And loads of points for everyone who bet on me (fanks y'all!)
Quality medal, free Red Bull and a good crowd all added to it, but there should have been a cyclist leading the wheelchair athletes through all of us, and could HSBC not afford a goody bagg? But especially nice was the three-legged 10k world record being broken by two mental/brave and wonderful fellas! Seems that the runners made this a good race, because the organisation was a bit lacking. Pegasus RC 53:05 53:36 56:00 53:36 55.45
Sweetie New PB (taken off Garmin) - really chuffed - took over a minute off previous time. FERC 54:25 54:25 54:59 54:25 55.21
WildeRover All being equal, I should be inside 52:00 and maybe chasing 50:00.

However, things won't be entirely equal - I will have only just got back from holiday in the states, where I am likely to stuff my face for 3 weeks solid and won't have run much in the time I'm away. Sub 52 is still on the cards - but that's about the limit, rather than chasing the sub 50 that I could possibly do over 10K. (One day I'll go sub 48:40, finally catching the 16 year old me from the Race Against Time, but that's for another race, another day).

Time was OK overall. I have been struggling to get back any speed since holiday - another week back and it might have been sub 52, but never mind. Still a PB by 2 mins.

The overall organisation was appalling. I know it is a charity run but £15 is not cheap and it is a capital city 10k, so things should have been better than this.

The time of 52:47 is my time, not the official time. This is because, despite issuing chips, there was only a timing mat at the finish and not the start - times are based on gun to mat. This was not mentioned anywhere at all, but I heard that someone had found out about it when they emailed the organisers, others were caught surprised, unprepared to time themselves and consequently a bit annoyed......... So I did my own timing.

Then we were off - then we came back for a false start!?! Then we were off again - sort of.......... One of the corporate teams (HSBC I am guessing) had a team of 70 all decked out in red t-shirts starting right near the front. Unfortunately among this there were at least 20 who were walking the 10k - there was no attempt at any time based arrangement of the field at all. In the end, from crossing the line to 1k I took 5:52 because of all the Lliswerry Runners 44:18 52:47 52:00 52:47 50.68
