Dochart Race HQ and the start are just off the A37 south of Bristol and free car parking is available on a playing field close by. Race numbers had to be collected from HQ, even for pre-registered runners. i arrived quite early and found registration to be slightly chaotic as the signage didn't match the desks for pre-reg'd runners and those running on the day. Later on, there was quite a long queue of runners waiting to register. Race HQ also offered limited changing, toilets, showers, bagage check and a bar - none of which was inspected by me. The start had pens for sub 40 min, sub 50, sub 60 and 60+ min runners. The course is run in a loop through narrow country lanes and the roads are closed to traffic during the race. There were plently of friendly marshals on the course and an occasional sprinkling of supporters to cheer the runners on. The hills were nowhere near as bad as the pre-race chat lead me to believe: around 200m of ascent in total. Some of the descents were pretty steep and tough on the knees. There were three water stations, one offering a sports drink as well as water. The finish runs 300m around playing fields on slightly bumpy grass. There didn't appear to be much of a delay through the finish funnel. The weather on the day was just about perfect, calm, cool and cloudy with a hint of rain in the air but none falling during the race. Before the race started I wasn't too sure how I would cope with the hills. Starting in the sub 60 min pen and a slow pace over the first 2k cost me a sub 50 min time, which was slightly disappointing. Still, something to aim for next year and more positively, I managed something approximating a sprint to finish. 143/321 Stragglers 39:50 43:16 55:00 50:45 55.72
