cehstone great weather, Dove felt colder than last year, still very muddy. Thought that I was taking it easier than previous years, I even relaxed enough to stride up that middle hill, after the hand climbing bit, fell to my knee at start of that. ninemins First time on this course always clashed with something in the past. Quite an event - very congested road leading to the start and very slow once you are on the site as there are myriads of people sliding around making there way to the loos walking down the only route a vehicle can travel on. Selfish behavior as they must have got there somehow and the queues to register were pretty big too.

Course itself was pretty steep down to the river with some mud patches and puddles - then there is the river itself. So it short just stay upright until you are over the river is objective one. Then there are tracks, roads, gates etc one big climb then back along the river and up the start hill only this time it is mud and puddles but going upwards. When you are negotiating any gates imagine the herds of cows when all restricted to a small area over time churn up the ground and deep mud is the result - so just chill and be patient - stuck to the edge an aggressive youngster steamed in behind shoved the guy behind me and and as they was a solid wall of people could go not further - in a cloud of expletives and testosterone he tried for the really deep mud in the middle without the benefit of the gate wall or fence to offer any support - last I saw he was falling forwards already up to his knees in the mud.

One unique feature of the finish is your time is not recorded so basically once you have secured your position in the finish line up your race is over. So if on the muddy, steep, slidey bit the finishing queue reaches 10 20 30 deep you just walk that last bit safe in the knowledge you numbered finishing certificate is waiting for you and you have been spared the last few metres of running that is the traditional way to finish a race.

Great organisation

Richey 157th - according to the website1477 people signed on to race which is amazing. River was cold and conditions were very heavy but it was good fun. Didn't feel like I ran my best to be honest and found it hard work but made a good fist of the final climb. Still finished behind a very dirty smurf and a dog. Then had to go back to the bottom and fish my 2 year old out of the river and get him back to the top for a change. Some interesting sights coming back up the second time!
