Baza 1st time at this event as we were visiting family up in Kilwinning. Quite glad it was held on the beach as the roads/pavements weren't looking to great being coverred in Ice. Arrived with 10 minutes to spare having got caught in snow on the way through and ended up setting of to quickly, club mate caught me and pulled away but I managed to maintain about 20 metres behind him till the last turn. We decided to work the last 2.5k together and finished a second apart. Good workout and, slightly unusual running on the beach, but a race is a race!! Good to see a few Fetchies too, Jules and Sunbed, good runs btw. DaveC I think it was me and my clubmate who went past you, glad you hung on though. Carnegie Harriers 36:28 36:32 38:45 68.53
briandarroch I was glad the race was still on with the icy paths but running on the sand was going to be somewhat slower. I set off at a steady pace but I didn't feel well after 2.5k. I just treated the rest of the race as a jog, just glad to get some running done! Kilmarnock Harriers & AC, scottish athletics 42:28 43:59 50:14 53.81

daviec Race was moved from usual promenade/residential route down onto the beach, with 2 5k loops on the sand. Most runners were expecting to be a couple of minutes down but I decided to set off at 38 minute pace anyway. Managed first half of the race OK, but was slightly down on target. Tried to up it but was running on my own and it felt more like a time trial than a race. Never managed to pick the pace up enough until the last k when a couple of lads caught up with me and I tried to go with them. Finished in 38:53 and would be very happy if, as other finishers suggested, I can take 2 minutes from that on a good day. Still to run a decent 10k in my racing career!! gilly b Legs still feeling tired after hard Christmas Eve run, and stomach not quite right after Christmas day, however managed to throw up some of that 500m before the finish and some more after the finish - lovely! A great spread after, a good day in Ayr (despite my running!). Unaffiliated 47:58 47:59 52:19 61.22

Hamsterwheel First race in ages but once i got going felt quite good even though the race was on the beach which made it hard work. Girvan AAC 39:40 41:53 45:00 41:53 63.61

JulesR Along the beach rather than the usual road route so not too disappointed with missing sub-40. Started with a couple of 3.50's but dropped off a group I maybe should have stuck with. Finished ok so endurance not an issue - speed endurance needed. Always a friendly event and nice to see familiar Fetch faces about. Stirling Triathlon Club 37:21 40:12 40:12 72.68

Sunbed Athlete Normal route not safe to run on due to adverse weather.Paths/roads still very icy & slippy so organisers ran the race on the beach with 2 x 5k laps. Some parts soft & others firm.Saw the Ayr Utd team doing their training on the beach as their football game was postponed.Us runners showed those wimpy footballers proper fitness. The tide was out so gave you a good wide area to run on.Went through the 1st lap in 3rd after sharing the lead amongst 2nd place Tommy Hearle & someone else but no the eventual winner who did his fecking normal race tactics which was sit tight on the lead guys shoulder & sprint away from you/him to run clear within the last 20 mts after you've done all the hard work.NORMAL runners or RESPECTABLE runners would share the lead with you but not this guy.Anyhow FULL CREDIT to the race organisers as it gave us a race which we were wanting so no complaints here.Great spread of grub afterwards too.Got £20 for 3rd place & got handed some shortbread on the way out of the Citadel which just about lasted the journey home.
