Bolt Really enjoyed this! The 1st mile is fast with an off-road descent that see me in 6:22 and feeling good although worrying about the first hill up to Belstead. Then Richard N runs past me at a storming pace (sub 6?) and heads up the hill rapidly disappearing. No worries - running my own race and making headway. I pass TT's CH nemesis from XCs and then see Nicola P from Striders. Give her encouragement but easily pass her too. At mile 2 the hill is over (still managed to stay to 7s) and I start to increase speed running with a goodly chap from Stowmarket. He spits a bit like Spit the Dog with a cold and some of it hits me...but perhaps that's just his way of being friendly. We head off road and lots of people SLLLLOOOOW allowing us to zoom past them...across the A14 bridge and return back. I feel tired but strong and the running is flowiing nicely...no pains, no gripes. Very pure it be. Happy I am. 3rd mile is 6:46 then mile 4 comes up 6:33 (note to self...definitely could have pushed harder during descent) but then it all comes to a grinding halt as we are suddenly presented with big off road hill to climb ('this is it' chirps someone behind). Force myself up the climb...which, truth be told isn't that long, but IS horrid...pace slowly to 9s I reckon (ahhgh!) but appear back on flat road and grit teeth and push on. Soon enough I'm passing people but time is moving inexorably on...and, despite sprint finish, I don't break 34 minutes...about 34:18 [34:25 was official time but not by my watch). Anyway, not too bad...pretty pleased with result. Beat JB and TT but Richard was 1:30 ahead of me (Jase, Matt, and Marc ahead of him). Bright Orange T-Shirt at the end rounds off a nice evening...head off to cheer our other runners into the finish. Definitely one to do again next year.... themookid I was little bit down on what I wanted (32.30) but given that course I am happy with that.

It was a quick start as expected down the hill felt comfortable and I was surprised to see 6:02 at the mile marker. The hill on the second mile came sooner than I expected and although it didnt feel slow, it was, mile 2 marker didnt arrive until a dissapointing 6:54. 'Thats OK' I thought 'I've gained 30 in the first lost it again in the second on target for 32.30 but need a quick mile to compensate for the last'. Actually feeling pretty relaxed for a race, working hard and feeling positive for once!! Mile 3 was 6:31 so I told myself to push on the down hill 4th mile. Others had the same idea as the first few began passing me after the a14 flyover. The 4th mile was not as quick as I wanted in 6:27 which I then knew wasnt going to be quick enough for the 32.30. Insult to injury a Harwich vest comes past me looking comfortable but at least I now have a new target! Starting the up hill section poorly but everyone else in the same boat, I managed push on hard coming out of the woods feeling OK and able to work well towards the finish and gain back some ground on a few fellas ahead. I was determind to be the 3rd Harwich vest home and had to find a sprint to do it. Made it but only just!! 6.50 last mile and 32:46 overall. I am a bit disapointed not to get under my target but enjoyed the course and the run. Unaffiliated 31:20 32:46 32:30 32:46 64.33
