Billy-Whizz-Haining A tough race of 2 halves, for the first 6 miles i felt rough, still had a bit of the Lairig Ghru in my legs but at the half way point i forced the pace a bit and felt better for it, i settled down and started racing and managed to finish 1st vet 50+, it was nice to meet some fellow fetches, Connell and Girvan-Ruth. connelld This is my fifth year running this race and although I never get my PB, I love this race as a bit of a challenge. I started of pretty fast and felt quite uncomfortable as runners such as George Irving (who I would expect to have got away in second) were all nearby. Into the second mile and the crowd had all split up by now, with Andy Campbell running next to Toni McIntosh gradually moving away and George now nowhere in site. As my splits seemed very inconsistent, I decided to check the times at miles, but not to react to the times. Going through the 3rd and 4th mile and I managed past Andy who was slightly flagging and a Guy who said he was looking for under 2 hours. Next, I ran by Kerry's mate who had went over in his ankle and past Anthony.

Heading into the 8th and 9th mile and C'moanTheAccies helped me on to the downhill which I unusually tried to let my self relax. I managed back up the next mile okay although by this point the heat was building up. However, as the gap was very wide (no positions to be gained), I decided not to look back and gave as much as I could got final miles. Came in 9th overall and 4:35 of my course record so pleased. I also got a prize for 2nd Ayrshire runner as this was the Ayrshire half Championship.

In 2nd overall was SunBedAthlete, with Bill Haining 10th, DavieC 14th. Team mates Les McDerment and Al Murray came in 13th and 19th giving us the prize of 1st Team in (Kilmarnock) and we all received a nice trophy and £20 ASDA Voucher. daviec Course was long due to start being moved. Very warm today, ended up burnt and dehydrated. Very pleased with run considering lack of any real training for the last two weeks. Hoping to spring back from this now and get back to sub 3 marathon shape for October.

Started off steady holding in behind the very many fast starters, but still ran first mile a bit fast, going through in 6.25. tried to slow pace a bit over next 2 miles, then overdid it in mile 4 and had to pick it up a bit. Started to pass runners regularly from here. Left a couple of guys on the big downhill straight into Dailly, and kept momentum coming back up the hill at the other side. Had to stop to tie my shoe lace and expected someone to pass me but had enough of a gap to keep postion. The shade in the trees from here was welcome but I was beginning to feel the pace a little. Concentrated on form to ensure alignment and keep my legs turning over quickly and easily. I could see a few more runners in the distance now and felt like I was making steady progress.

Got a welcome bottle of lucozade sport from Steve at mile 8 and felt like I had a bit of second wind from there. My foot was thorbbing now, but I was able to ignore it for the most part. Tried to make some time going down to Cairnhill and as usual the climb back out of the valley was very tough. From there I felt like I was in the home straight. Made real progress on the guys in front and eventaully tagged onto the back of them outside Old Dailly. I passed one guy here, and reeled in the next just outside Girvan.

Delighted with finish time as I really wanted under 90 but thought it may be beyond me just now. New personal course record for me as well, so really can't complain. Picked up trophy for first local and £30 of vouchers and Girvan picked up 2nd place in Ayrshire HM Championships :)

Hamsterwheel Very happy with my first half marathon result now i will be looking for a sud 90 next time.Went off a bit fast then slowed up to much at mile 3 but picked up the pace again and passed a few runners on the hill before and after daily. My only regret is that i did not wear a hat and suncream as the sunburn on my head and neck is more painfull than my legs.Well done to the club for a well organised and enjoyable race.
