2 overly enthusiastic people at work encouraged me to hit the road - I declined and hit the TM. Interval trained 13KM p/h - 8 km/p on 1 minute intervals for a month and a half, still not able to increase the interval time until my nagging mates said, drop the speed and you'll continue longer. I knew they were wrong, but one day, whilst interval training, I gave myself chest pains and decided that tomorrow, I'd do it their way and PROVE to them that they were wrong ! I did it their way and I managed 1K at 7.5 km/p - yey (never believed it possible). from that point on, it was all about gaining distance.
Snow fell and my first (Boxing day) race was cancelled in 2010. Trained through spring and then stopped for summer and autumn, until my old friend contacted me and said she was coming over to do the 2011 boxing day race with me.
ERK! Trained every other day a 5k route round my village and managed to pull in a PB on race day.
Current Status: training to reach a PB without the use of a Golf wing mirror !
