What an interesting run... it was dreadful and awesome all at the same time. Mostly dreadful at the time and then awesome when you see we did nearly 48km and we had some tough times which set us up well for GNW (where we will obviously be going for 30 (or more) hours.

The run started nicely - 5km on the road. Then lights on and down into the bush. Very enjoyable up to about 15km. Then it got bad. It got so technical and tough and I slipped on a wet rock and smashed my elbow and my right hip. I have a lovely big bruise on my leg now. It hurt, A LOT. As Adam kept telling me, it will hurt more on race day and that is even if I don't fall over. The next few km were terrible - really technical and in pretty much constant pain.

Then we got to Davidson Park (at about 24km - there was some gravel road at the end that was quicker). We decided to carry on the trail (instead of road home) as I thought my leg was ok. Also, we heard that England had got the Aussies all out with a good lead and we were 15-0, so very happy!

Then there was some more technical stuff, but we knew this bit so it was ok. Then we got to some technical we didn't really know and went the wrong way a couple of times, but nothing too bad... until 30-35km. We got majorly lost. It was dreadful. There were no tracks going anywhere - trees down, pitch black, leg aching, and my headtorch had run out of battery so I was using the back up torch which is ok, but nowhere near as good.

It was absolutely abysmal. Eventually (after about an hour of wandering aimlessly) we went out to a road section and went round this bit. We then went back into the bush and retraced our steps to where we got lost. We found the spot we reached, but there was no way you could see it from the other direction. RIDICULOUS!

Anyway... then off we went again and back on track that we know and is reasonably runnable (although still up and down).

Then we got back on the road to Sydney and up some hills across Spit Bridge and we started moving (relatively). What made us feel good is that we did our quickest km as our last one! Good finish:-)

We got to the pub at about 1.30am - they nearly didn't let us in, but decided we clearly looked like we needed a beer:-) We saw Murray lose 2 sets to Federer :-( but we saw Stokes score some runs and us take the game away from Australia!

We ran home because it was too cold to walk and in bed by about 3.30am!!!

All in all, a worthwhile experience, but hideous.

You need to have a comprehensive battery of psychological tests done. You are certified mental. This is how you choose to spend your Friday nights? Hope the injuries aren't as bad as they sound.

No running over the rest of the weekend - we spent it looking after a 4 and a 1 year old! The injuries aren't bad - now they have had time to settle down - it was more pride that was hurt! It was a great Friday night - me and Adam are most definitely mental!
