Groups

Want to find like-minded Fetchies? Whether you're training for a specific half marathon time, or you just like wearing lycra, there's a group here for you. And if there's not, why not create a group? Usual guidelines apply. Silly groups, or those that attract no members will be cleaned. Those with less than 20 members are not listed here, but will appear on individuals' profiles.

Single Fetchies non-running Well why not eh? There are a few of us on here, so I thought I'd start a group. This is not a dating website, it is a running community and we know that.

It's just nice to meet other people who 'get it' about you and your running. Someone who will understand why you are grinning like a maniac because you've knocked 2 seconds off your PB. Someone who understands that even though your feet are covered in blisters AND your toenail has come off AND it's -3 degrees outside you are still going out for a run.

Oh and so we can flirt.

We want to FetchEveryone to this event, which will be held at Loughborough University with good access to motorways, trains, airports and even somewhere Harry Potter can get to with Flue Powder.

We expect the cost to be in the region of £120 per head, to include everything except Drinks. Any surplus after organisational costs will go to Charity.

We want you to tell us what you want to do. There is a thread here: Link (roll over me to see where I go)

Basic Format to include:

Fetchenstein running So there's no funding (lottery or otherwise) for anyone but a couple of established marathon runners leading up to 2012 and the only money available seems to be getting splashed on sprinters with a penchant for diamond earings and flouncing about like peacocks for hours in preparation for less than a minute's actual effort.

Fetchies, Romans, Countrymen! We can change that.

I reckon if we all chipped in then a bursary/grant/scholarship type arrangement could keep an up and coming marathon runner in gels and plimsoles for a year, thus saving the poor thing having to learn how the fries machine is operated while working towards that all-important fifth star.

If there's 'no money' in the sport then the only practical means we have of changing that is to put some in ourselves and demonstrate to sponsors that it can be a viable commercial proposition.

Here are some random thoughts about how such a thing could work:

1,500 people paying £20 = £30K but I don't see a cash-strapped athlete turning their nose up at even a few hundred quid if it keeps them in shoes for a year or summat. Reckon we could get Natmag involved to match it if a good CBA (cost/benefit analysis not 'it's too cold to go for a run' ;-) ) can be made.

Marathon runner, 2012 medal prospect. Age and gender immaterial. (we're an equal opportunities bunch of loonies)

I reckon finding someone would be easy, given the club and coaching links we've got available.

The benefactor/victim would be encouraged to 'join in' here but as a bare minimum would be expected to log their training and make it visible to sponsors.

Maybe UKA would like to get involved and combine any Fetchie revenue with one of their own (lottery or no) programmes?

Issues:

Fetch is usually more inclusive rather than focussing on elite running but I reckon the community sponsorship/ownership of this would counter that argument.

When money's involved things get tricky legally. Trust fund? Ask the MyFootball club peeps etc. etc.

What if the recipient's a donkey? Can we ditch them and get another one after a year?

Check back for updates and if all goes well, actual real life 'decisions'.

COMPLETING A MARATHON running Time doesn't matter in this group... what's important is the finish line.... the reason why you are doing a marathon.... it doesn't have to be in 2009 it can be in the next 10 years... maybe you have lost somebody close and want to dedicate a marathon to them... maybe you have recovered from illness and want to celebrate.... likewise recovery from injury (myself included). On the tv coverage we see the elite runners who have trained so hard and get fantastic times, but hours after they have finished there are people still out there in their wake with amazing stories, time is not an issue.... and in the days afterwards when people ask "well what was your time? " - Don't be afraid to say "I enjoyed the day, and was pleased with my time..." Don't be "embaressed" with your time.... there are far more people who would be incapable of doing what you've just done.... 26.2 miles is a long way..... that's what this group is about! Please sign up to this group if you are interested in taking part in a study relating HR data and training / racing. The results of the study will be published on the site and hopefully incorporated into its functionality, i.e. to provide accurate guides to training / race potential, based on your current training etc. I will also provide you with a detailed summary of your individual statistics!

To take part in the study ideally you should have been using an HRM for at least 3 months, use it fairly regularly, log your training religiously on Fetch (and differentiate between training types) and be happy for me to pester you with questions (if needbe) about your training.

You will need to answer a short questionnaire at the start of the study, which I will fmail you and I'll liaise with the main man Fetch to determine the best way to obtain your training data!

All the best!

The InBetweeners weight loss group running UPDATE:
I've been playing with the spreadsheet today, trying to tidy it up, and add a few bits and pieces.

I totalled the group weight loss an we seem to have lost someone. Can you all have a good look please, see if they slid down the back of the sofa or something. They'll be about 10st 4lbs (66kg). Thats what the group has lost between us. 145 lbs!

Not as Lardy (or mean) as Max's lot and not as thin as the others, this is a group to lose a sensible amount of weight in a sensible amount of time.

Fetch Lazybones running STARTING MONDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER - JOIN NOW

Let's see if this works. There are two groups - the Pesterers and the Lazybones. If you need a bit of encouragement to get out for your run each day, join the Lazybones group. If you think you can shake the apathy out of someone, join the Pesterers group. Every day, each Lazybones will be assigned one or more Pesterers (depending on how the numbers work out) at random, and the rest is up to you.

As a Pesterer, you'll get an fmail each day telling you who to pester / encourage / help. Do your research on their user profile to see the sort of running they're doing. Fmail your Lazybones, or follow them round the website - keep at them, until they've either got their run done, or given you a good reason why not. Be nice though, it's not a license to act like a total git, and you might find that you can really help someone improve their running.

As a Lazybones, you accept that you are likely to be pestered. But you might also find help and support from a fellow runner. You accept that the advice you receive is personal opinion, and agree not to sue anybody if you knacker yourself. If you don't like being pestered, leave the group. Oh, and go for a run, lazy bones.

FLM 2009 FETCHPOINT - SUPPORTERS running Hello! as many of you know, we had a fantastically successful Fetch support point in FLM07 and FLM08 (which became known as FLM Fetchpoint).

The location was at about mile 22, where we felt that runners would be in dire need of a smile and a wave and possibly - very true in many cases - a hug. I still have fond memories of being hugged by a random set of firemen in full uniform in 07......ahem! :-)

Anyway, we are doing it again!

Aiming for the same point, approximately mile 22, which is The Highway. It's on the sunny side of the street and has the added benefit that mile 13 runs up the other side of the road so we get a chance to yell at our lovely runners TWICE!

So come along and join in the fun. I can promise you balloons aplenty, lots of fun and laughter and a good warm glow from doing something lovely for your fellow Fetchie. :-)

And probably a wee trip to the pub after.... At this stage, we need names on a list (there will be a separate list for runners and their requirements) and further down the line we will divide into groups and allocate you some runners.

Dedicated website is under development.

Dedicated email address is the one from last year as I managed to remember the password ;-).

2010 Miles Xmas Challenge running Aim of the game is to record 2010 miles between us from 12AM on 1st December and Christmas Day @11.59PM. Maximum of 50 members. 80.4 miles a day on average.

Breakdown of average daily mileage required by each member.

50 Members - 1.61 miles per day
40 members - 2.01 miles per day
30 members - 2.68 miles per day
20 members - 4.02 miles per day
10 members - 8.04 miles per day

If we make it with time to spare, which probably means we have a big group, I suggest we have to do at least 201.0 miles a day from then on which may be a little more challenging...

FECS - FetchEveryone Common Sense running If you are a member of this group then you are someone who is committed to training and helping people to train in a responsible, sensible manner and creating an environment on here for runners that will encourage people to train in a way that will help to reduce the risk of personal injury and increase the enjoyment of running, the sport we all love so much. You don't have to be a coach and you don't have to be a 'seasoned' runner. All that matters is that you agree with the ideals set out here in the FetchEveryone Common Sense Guidlines set out here below:

1. You are responsible for your own body. Listen to it. Your coach is *not* responsible for your body!
2. Listen to good advice, but see #1
3. A training plan is a guide, not a dictator. See #1 & #2
4. Running should be fun so why put yourself through a punishing training regime to do something you don't really want to do?
5. Being inspired to progress and do well with your running is good. Allowing it to make you prematurely reach for goals you aren't ready for is quite a different kettle of fish (not good). See #1-4
6. Don't do a race just because you don't want to lose face with friends or whatever. See #1-5

The guidelines were thought of by LizzieLou, I slightly altered number 5 to make it read a little better.

Tracking Total Training Time running Hi guys, this is the group to join (and to give update in your notes) for tracking total training time. It's linked to the "356 hours training in 2011" thread and perhaps to others in due course?

General idea is:
A thread for those feeling left out by all the "1000 miles in 2011" threads etc

Whatever you count as training, counts as training. Shout out your hours done...

Format for your update should look summat like this:

Target....Total so far.....Date
e.g.
400 ..... 21.44 ..... 16 Jan 2011

Optionally, you can put in the % progress too (if you're a stat geek like me and Isabel!)
e.g.
Target....Total hrs (% of target).....Date (% way through year)
400 ..... 24.04 (6%) ..... 18 Jan 2011 (4.9%)

This might not work, but here we go...!

Edinburgh Marathon 2011 Fetchpoint running A group to try an keep up with what's going on for Fetchpoint. We can't possibly not have a fetchpoint so in Santa's absence I hope we can still get something worthwhile organised!

Fetchpoint is around mile 12 on the way out to Gosford an 23-ish on the way back. This mean it does NOT see the half marathon folks I'm afraid.

RUNNERS:- We'll be looking out for Fetch vests! If you don't have one we likely won't spot you in the crowds so yell FETCH! Stop an come right up an have a hug an a jelly baby Raspberry!

COLLECTION FOR FETCHPOINT:- All donations welcome (jelly babies, jaffa cakes, oranges , water, whatever you like really) !Edinburgh Parkrun on Saturday 21st May then the afternoon at Ryans Bar in town. If it's stuff for yourself please label with your name an number/colour.

Please join up an ensure I don't miss anything important and so you know when 'things' are starting to move! I'll be grateful to anyone who can help me work out where to start and encourage non-running folks to ensure it's not only me standing in Prestonpans surrounded by red and yellow balloons and a lot of strange looks :-)

If it's just a fraction of the usual success I'm pretty certain we'll all be happy so here goes......

Now even FETCH HIMSELF has become a PANTHER!

IanM has now taken the look to the NEXT LEVEL utilising SKINS™ with BioAcceleration Technology™ and cruicially the POWERSOX™

KR2 is the latest to enter the Pantherz lair...

Who knows where this will end??? Well, probably just here but you never know... :-);-)

Erm, just in case anyone reads this and thinkns I have now completely gone off my trolley, there is a semi serious message behind all of this: let's have some fun, let's make even more running events have an even more conspicuous Fetchie presence.

Oh and spread the love! :-)

Join Jock's group for this: Link (roll over me to see where I go) :-)

Fetch NaNo-ers non-running A group for novelling Fetchies doing NaNoWriMo....

Link (roll over me to see where I go)

What is Nanowrimo?
Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that's a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down....

Nano 2011 begins on the 1st of November.....get that pot of coffee ready!!

FLM 2008 FETCH Support Group running Hello!

as many of you know, we had a fantastically successful Fetch support point in FLM07 (which became known as Fetchpoint).

The location was at about mile 22, where we felt that runners would be is dire need of a smile and a wave and possibly - very true in many cases - a hug. I still have fond memories of being hugged by a random set of firemen in full uniform last year......ahem!

:-) And probably a wee trip to the pub after....

At this stage, we need names on a list (there will be a separate list for runners and their requirements) and further down the line we will divide into groups and allocate you some runners.

Dedicated website is under development. (Thanks to John66 for being hot off the mark on that one)

Dedicated email address likely to come soon too. For any problems, queries etc etc.

FishEveryone II December Challenge non-running A swimming challenge for amphibious fetchies.

All you need to do is swim a time trial (25m, 100m, 400m or 1km) any stroke you choose before 9th December. Post your times on the thread: Link (roll over me to see where I go) then train like hell for a month. Then, in the week of 11th January, swim another TT at the same distance (or distances) using the same stroke, and post your time on the thread again. The *winner* is the person who shows the best improvement after the month.

The spreadsheet's here: Link (roll over me to see where I go)
It doesn't do anything fancy, I will update it when people post their times on the thread

Fetch Pesterers running STARTING MONDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER - JOIN NOW

Edinburgh City Centre Race running Sunday Nov 8th, starting 1100am.
Reaching out to any Fetchies who fancy the idea of an Edinburgh City Centre run, following the route of the Bupa Gt Edinburgh 10k. Run can be as competitive or gentle as preferred, using a group handicap system with stopwatch timing. Unlike Bupa races, this one`s for free...and I would boldly predict that the timing system would be more accurate than this year`s Bupa one :-)
Hopefully Mr Ellem will be doing photos and Mrs Rentboy timekeeping. Food afterwards?
