My brother had the best birthdays in the world as a boy. His birthday is August 22. We were always travelling back from our holiday around then, so he invariably spent his birthday in all the major European capitals.

No August baby for me. Being a teacher I have to plan it right so that the next baby is due mid-end of September so that I can start maternity leave the first day of the new school year and have my 6 week holiday paid. :-)

:-) I have the opposite planning thoughts (like I plan anything!) I need to start El Cap's paternity leave outside of school holidays. Sylvie was a fluke and worked well that he could start his paternity 2 weeks after she was born i.e. at the start of the school year.

So ideally a second one would pop along in early July so he'd off for the first 2 months:-)

Is the correct answer, OS.

The other option is to time maternity leave so you return on decent pay in the last week of the July term, get the six weeks on full pay and then go down to part time with effect from the September.

Not that we were in a position to plan such a thing, just how it worked out.

Hey how is everyone doing? I am loving being a mum - Hazel is a lovely baby (though she screams every evening for a few hours)!

Just wanted to make a recommendation for anyone interested - I've been getting twice as much sleep since I started using this thing called the Sleepyhead. It's a bed nest that sits on the bed or in a cot (wouldn't fit in a moses basket though). It's a bit pricey but an absolute godsend.

How is everyone doing? I've put some pictures of Hazel on my blog for anyone interested not sure how to upload onto here.

I've had loads of recommendations for the sleepy head. I'm hanging on now until she fits the next size up though. She's not got long left in the Moses basket I don't think and I put her in her crib yesterday while I was cleaning her room and she looks tiny in there!

I'm loving being a mum too :-) I wasn't sure how well I'd take to the tiny baby stage but I love it! I met up with my hypno group today and two of the babies were 8 & 5 weeks and I realised I missed having a scrunched up newborn :-)

I think we're just through the 3 month growth spurt. Sylvie's been a nightmare yesterday & monday but last night and today have been much better. Fingers crossed! She's 13 weeks today, time is flying

Hi ladies

Glad to hear you're all doing well and loving motherhood :-) I read your blog Lambkin, I hope you're recovering okay? You've done amazing to be out walking already. We have the sleepyhead! I bought it after about 2 days of being home and realising Sophie hated her crib and having lots of space around her. It's definitely been worth the money and we use it all the time, downstairs in the day too.

Ah, can't believe Sylvie is 13 weeks BC! She must be so much fun now she's more aware of things. How are you spending your days with her? Do you do lots of classes etc. or stay at home mostly? I am starting to think I need to do a bit more now but not sure what.

Sophie is 5 weeks today! She is changing all the time, my teeny tiny girl has turned into a bit of a chunk! I say that but she's still only 8lb 6oz on her last weigh in! She is awake lots more now though and I'm getting some coos and gurgles now, and even what I'm pretty sure are real smiles! :-) I am feeling a bit more confident with her too and have managed a few solo outings. Today we met up with the NCT girls and their babies for a walk and a coffee - felt like a huge thing to do! Perhaps I won't be housebound for ever after all! :-)

So good to hear you much more positive and happy Neems :-) 5 weeks was when I started to feel a lot more like myself.

It's a lot more fun now she's aware of stuff. I think it was around 7 weeks that she started seeing things and laughing at them. She just wants to see everything now so it's much easier to keep her entertained.

I haven't got organised into doing any classes. In the new year I'm going to take her swimming and I might go to baby sensory soon, she loves all the lighty up stuff and is starting to grab at things so I think she'll like it.

I generally fill my days with either going for walks or I've got a few friends with kids that work part time so have been doing coffees and stuff with them

It's lovely to hear how well you're all doing with your beautiful newborns :)

I've been umming and ahhing over the Sleepyhead and know a few people who swear by them. I just feel that £100 for what is essentially a sodding cushion is daylight robbery. I'll probably still get one though.

Had my 3rd NCT class last night and really enjoying them. I'll be 30 weeks on Saturday, the time is passing pretty fast now.

Yeah, I've heard others swear by the sleepyhead too. I am tempted to just bung my two in together & hope for the best ;-) It's cheaper than two pillows!
