Hey Krissie, they do generally go through a sleep regression aorund 4 mths, so my advice would bej ust hang in there, make sure you eat and drink plenty to make the best possible milk and if you really want to try solids, I think you can get baby porridge and fruit puree pots from 4mths. But I will say even if he eats better he might not necessarily sleep better, unfortunately that is not always so from my experience. my best sleeper was my middle child who was BF just like the others and actually had no solids until 6mths. The others had bits and bobs earlier and were never great sleepers :-)

Hi. We are at 25 weeks this week and have been dabbling with foods for a few weeks for all the reasons you give. I swear our kids must talk. I've given apple or pear purée bulked up with some rice, carrot and sweet potato. All puréed up. Next week it's finger foods. He slept for one of the nights but no change really. Sometimes he takes the food and others he's not interested. Don't know if that helps or not x

From the medical perspective the reason for weaning is to improve child's nutrition of especially iron which is low in milk and starts to run out after 6 months. The reason to wait for weaning is that if you start early before baby can sit up independently and swallow safely they can swallow food onto their lungs and get pneumonia. I study comparing babies weaned at 4 months v 6 months showed the 4 month babies were much more likely to be admitted to hospital w pneumonia than 6 month ones. But that doesn't say where the cut off is between the ages, and all babies develop differently. I started weaning Mara at 24 weeks because she seemed ready, sitting up, interested in puting things in her mouth. But I wouldn't say she got much of her calories from food for the next few months.

I do believe it is very much down to each baby. My 15 year old is intolerant to Dairy and Soya (plus wheat and gluten) She started on puréed fruit and veg at 3 months simply because she could keep anything inside her. She sat up in a high chair supported by plenty of pillows etc and sat unsupported at 4.5 months.

Everything is a guide line

I had my first sweep today. The head was fully engaged( I think it has been for the last 2 weeks) and my cervix was about 1 1/2cm dilated although still quite thick and posterior. Seems v good to me, last time after 12 hrs of painful contractions I only got to 2cm. It can't be too much longer. My brother is visiting from Hong Kong on Sunday, I really hope he's born by then.

Any news Insomnianc? Any baby arrival?

I have determined I really do not like shopping for maternity clothing. Two of the shirts I have ordered and am keeping I have realised I cannot actually wear to work because they have that weird open loop that shows boobage and bra.

But at least some dresses I have ordered are fitting. And the leggings are on the way.
