Out on an early pre breakfast run this morning, and I experienced a sudden increase in heart rate during the 2nd mile. It was a flat route so no reason for my heart rate to increase, but it felt as though my heart was beating out of my chest, like palpitations. I was wearing my heart rate monitor, and it went from 150ish to 175!! So it was real! I walked for a while, HR came down quite quickly and carried on for the rest of the run fine. I've experienced palpitations before at night, but not while running, and I rarely have caffeine.
Thoughts? Thanks :-)

Thoughts?

See your GP, and find out if s/he thinks it warrants investigation

Anything else is conjecture.

Could be AF Lills, I too have experienced night time palpitations - 3 or 4am in fact.
